Default Open posting, suggest your self as a moderator

Well a fair number of you have asked, emailed me and I dare say thought I can do better.

Well here is your chance, but with a twist. Rather than me approaching people and almost imposing my request upon them, I'm openly making this post and asking those who wish to moderate to step forward.

Now for the twist, given recent activity you have to be aware that the mod's job is not without risks, albeit virtual and to be honest not worth the f'ing hassle a lot of the time.

So if you're interested, please take your time to think, then post, in reply to this thread only, your manifesto if you like. A short paragraph or two on why you either want or feel you should be a moderator. Within this, also select a forum you wish to propose yourself for.

Why am I doing this? Well I'm genuinely interested in views and discussion. You, the community, make and break this site. Some of the recent activity, as in times in years gone by, leaves me reaching for the close site button. But why should the childish spiteful actions of a few disrupt it for others? Exactly! It shouldn't - so step forward now and make it count. Who knows, this time tomorrow you too could have your very own lynch mob. Lets sort it out now!

A few small pointers, I'm keeping this thread clean, it's not a popularity contest, however you can use the thanks button on peoples postings if you support what they have said / done.

I feel like I'm doing a CV.

Well, I feel over the years I've put a lot of time into the forum - Organised a few group buys, organised a whole trip for 24 people to the Ring, organised the odd local meet too. I also like to feel I've helped out on the technical side of things too - 7 years of Skoda Fabia ownership soon makes you pretty clued up, especially doing what I do.

I do moderate already - on the vwaudiforum so have a little knowledge of how things work and what's generally expected of you. I am quite level headed and prefer not to get involved at all with such shenanigans as sometimes goes on, here and elsewhere.

Really, I just see it as a little "extra" that I can give the forum. I'm on here often enough.

What's the pay?

If the mods. were limited to specific areas, like in a lot of other fora I visit, specific people could be assigned their own area of talent.
I.E. Stu for the technical side, Gillywibble, ( and a few others), for car care, and dare I suggest myself for 'off topic'.
My resume is I don't suffer fools gladly, and can give as much as I take without taking offence.

I'd like to apply on the basis thats it's time for me to give something back.

I've learned a lot from the infomation others have provided, and know the job can be a thankless task.

Manifesto ? Well to do my best to keep the site true to what it set out to be. Not be too heavy handed, fair and willing to listen... But still have the moral strength to nip any stupidness in the bud.

I've taken the first step in partnership with another forum member to help get a wiki of the ground and running, and I'd like to put my self forward to moderate some of the techy areas (such as Vagcom, maint, etc)

Hope thats enough....

Hi Colin,

I currently mod already for the .Net mag forums, and Total PDA forums under my 'other' web alias.

Know the joys of mod'ing already, so if I can be of assistance, just ask.

Agree with Mr G if you thought about limiting some mods to specific forums rather then the whole shebang.

Plus Makefish might get some other work done as he always seams to be on here
I myself would be more than happy to help with anything that i can as this site has cost and saved me alot in both time and money and mainly advice

i like to be able to give back alot to what i have been taught on here as i feel i give alot of time, arrange meets (often to no thanks but hey ho). have admin and mod experience and as much as some say i want to mod the lot, id be quite happy with my own little corner of the site that im to housekeep and keep tidy.

no political jargon or bull poo manifest, just as it is...

ps i do take bribes, but none of you could afford me

Well, I've put my name forward in the past, so may as well post up here too

I spend more time than is healthy here on Briskoda, so being able to channel some of that time into something a little more productive sounds great to me! I've been around long enough now to have a pretty good idea of what is acceptable or not, and feel able to make moderating decisions confidently.

Whilst spending a fair bit of time helping fellow Briskodians, arranging the odd meet etc, it would be nice to be able to contribute a little more into the tidyness of the place if nothing else - the number of spam posts etc I report is just one example of already trying to do my bit

Not much of a manifesto really

EDIT - as to which forum - well global really - I tend to use the new posts feature, and read threads in all sections of the forum.

Never expected to see this for a thread... Take a look below:

I have been an active member on Briskoda for a while now. -The work that I do means that I'm on the internet and Briskoda every day.

I know that my post count is low - However, I like to think it is quality rather than quantity. I always try to read as many threads as I can on Briskoda and try to offer a good and well structured reply that may in-turn help.

Briskoda for me is a Community and has many great people that I have seen on many occasions at meets, Sold Items, Given Items, Bought Items, 'Welcome' to new members and been there through many times High and low.

I know that I don't actually own a Skoda but I see this as more what I can do to help the community. The advice would be more on the technical side due to my work in ICT and Fabia Section as I did own a vRS.

I am an active member on Briskoda, CTR UK and VWAudi forums - I try to take a fair look on subject matters and try to sit on the fence instead of taking sides.

- In response to any complaints or problems that may have come out about me and my car... I was happy with how makefish delt with the issue and would be more than willing to lend a bigger hand on Briskoda.

Many Thanks,
Rob

I see a common theme developing

I've been on here longer than I care to remember (you'd never guess it by my pitifully low post count ) and would be more than happy to give something back to thank Col and the moderating team for making it such a great and relaxed environment, despite me driving other marques for most of that time!

I've run a couple of forums in the past and was also a moderator on 5ive-o so I'd be happy to help moderate any or all sections.

Chris

ps I already have my own lynch mob so no need to supply a new one

Bit like Auroan, I'd like to be considered as a mod so I can put something back into the site that I've got so much out of.

I've not had much exposure to the social side of the side, apart from bumping into the odd Briskodian on my travels, but I've made sure I've had my digital camera handy every time something's needed fixing! OK, so in one or two cases the things I've done TGs for have been more like illustrations for fixes that others have posted already, but I like to think it all adds to the knowledge that's on here...

Maybe the best qualifications I've got are a good memory (for fixes etc. not grudges! ), thick skin (sounds like a necessity lately!) and a desire to do whatever I can to keep Colin's finger away from that big red Site Closed button.

Even if no-one else thinks I should be a mod, I just want everyone to know how much of a shame I think it would be if the behaviour of a small minority of members sent the whole site down the plughole...

I'd be up for it if you will have me........lol
I feel as though I am "time served" by now and have seen all that the site can throw at you. I spend a lot of time on here and chose to keep a low profile most of the time observing rather than posting. I'd be up for the mk1 octy section or any others to be honest. I am a member of a few other sites but this is the only site that I bother with, don't ask me why because I don't really know, it just kind of captured me at some point and I got sucked in further and further. Although there are others who are probably more deserving, I am offering myself up as a proverbial "lamb to the slaughter" if you need me.

If you don't need me, then ignore all this waffling and I'll crawl back under my keyboard and carry on observing

Oh well might as well chuck my hat in the ring, been around for a few years now, still know very little about cars, and can probably post off topic as well as anyone , however I can recognise when there is a time and a place. I don't think I ever really fall out with anyone and certainly don't bare grudges if I ever do.

I regularly attend meets, local, national, and international and generally like to get to know people, and organise a regular meet for us yorks/ lancs folks, as well as a bit of a road trip later in the year.

My job means I am free most all afternoons and if I can help it will be a pleasure

Andrew

I'm going to jump in feet first and put me down for consideration too

Having moderated before on out work website (before we were merged) I have had some experience in this department.

I would like to nominate myself - don't really care about the hassle that comes with the job, as I'm still probably classed as a noob so people don't know me from adam.

I visit the site regularly throughout the day - and despite not posting in every single thread I do take an active interest in what is going on.

Also being a relative noob on the site I have not been subjected to any old arguments/rivalries or whatever you want to call them - and hopefully that would allow me to remain objective when dealing with users posts.

Having owned a Fabia and a Octavia I share an equal amount of respect for both cars - and so will not be biased towards either or any of the other Skoda Models that the site caters for.

I would also like to give something back to the community - if I didn't enjoy being here then I wouldn't spring the £12 Freedom Membership for two years running - I enjoy the atmosphere and the "mostly" friendly banter that goes on.

Cheers for your consideration

I would also like to recommend Jason, Shifty and Scooby_Chris as I feel they are three of the largest contributors to our wonderful community
