Default Smily Window and Firefox (2)

Anybody noticed that the smiley window can sometimes cause FF to crash?

Had it a good few times today, so I've collated the crash dump and popped it back up to firefox. I am assuming that it is related to javascript, perhaps looping or similar?

If I get time I might look into the code as there is no way a site should kill a browser, however I did find it curious.

Aye not like ie7 and empty select boxes causes the browser to crash...bugs, don't think they exist, except to keep people in work.

It does load a lot of images, something we need to trim down on anyway; although I suspect it will upset more than it pleases.

Had this happen once or twice myself Mark, although not regularly. I remember the code for my most frequently used ones anyway

Wasn't there a whole thread started about this last year?

Haven't had FF crash yet because of the smiley window. How often does it happen to you?

FF has never crashed because of this for me either.

No troubles here with the smilie window or loads of Orbs on a page. Even the trouble I was having before about losing access to Briskoda seems to have gone.

Never had the crash problem.

Not particularly fond of the orbs, but if their continued presence can secure Lady E's comeback (IIRC she's rather fond of them) I'll be happy if they stay.

I'll give it a go when I get home, I normally have only two tabs open at any one time so I'll open a few more up and see if it happens.

Six tabs open plus two word documents plus three pdf documents (Adobe Reader) and a meagre 256 MB RAM - still no problems with the smilies

Eight tabs all running different pages and the smiley window opened without a problem everytime. Actually opened faster than when I used to just have one tab open in IE!

FWIW Nothing happens if I try to insert a smiley from the panel (using IE7). It neither inserts the smiley nor crashes. I suppose I am just to position the cursor on my text and click on the smiley?

I insert them by typing the characters via the keyboard.

Just tried using IE7, Mo, and the desired smiley is inserted at the cursor position simply by left clicking on it.

Test

Now that's interesting! The above arrived from clicking on the smiley icon drop-down list on the horizontal menu which is within the advanced reply box. Only just noticed that. (Still no effect from clicking the righthand panel display icons though.)
