Default Cambelt Prices

Ok, what is the sort of price for one, and would I do better getting a VW or Audi dealer to do it for me, maybe even a bit cheaper?

I got a local independant dealer to fit mine, I supplied all the parts and it cost me around £200 all in.............IIRC you can get the kit from GSF for just over £100............

Two kits are listed for the 1.9 and the RRP from a dealer is only £100, if you were lucky enough to know somone with a TPS account you can get it much cheaper -

1.9TDi 02>03 038198119 RRP £88.00

1.9TDi 03> 038198119A RRP £88.00

Good work Stu, the differences in the kits are that one has a larger Cambelt Tensioner than the other..................not sure which way around it is though...........

The 1.8 is even cheaper again and prices rise a little for the 2.5.

Like I said if you can get somone with a TPS account near you then you can save a lot more on service items like that.

Interesting point, the second part of Superbia's question.

Cambelts aside - generally speaking, are VW or Audi or Seat stealers any more knowledgeable or proficient than their Skoda counterparts, and if so in relation to which engines in particular?

The obvious thought is that VW and Audi will certainly charge you more, but in the past I needed a couple of parts for a Seat Toledo. Seat stealer on back order; VW stealer in stock and cheaper!

I wouldn't mind paying a bit more to my local VW stealer, if there's a greater chance of things being done better.

Anyone got any comparison experience?

Well I rang a VW dealer this morning at 9:30am, and they were going to ring back, it's now 13:10pm and no call yet, I think I'll give it a miss, no better than a Skoda dealer on this showing tbh.

I was recently recommend these people buy a Skoda owner who lives local to me, Popped over to Thruxton to have a chat with a view to get them to do my servicing whilst there I asked what a cambelt job would cost. £325 inclusive of Labour parts and Vat. Still not sure whether to use them for my servicing whilst in warranty I’m not sure if my local dealer would be keen to do any warranty work if I went elsewhere for the servicing, any views on that? Also has anyone here used them?

Make that no return call at all.

325 all in looks quite a good deal for this car cos the front has to be moved about to do it, best option is to ask if they have the guide tools that keep it all in one piece, shame VW didn't include the function in the car full stop so they don't have to dismantle the car to get at it.

I paid about this when I had mine done; parts from the Skoda dealer & Halfords (at trade) and local independant to fit just round the corner from work.

Had coolant and water pump change at the same time.

12k on it and it's still going
