Default Cough Splutter and Engine Management

Evening,

Driving home tonight I started to accelerate and the car felt breathless, and it kinda paused before going...then the engine light flashed for about a minute and then stopped and went out..I kept going and it did it again when I accelerated! Its being serviced on Saturday and the engine management isn't staying on so is it ok to drive? What could it be?
