hi there.....i noticed during the last few nights, that the revs climb up to 1000 rpm and occasionally the headlights go dim for a few seconds (flickering on/off and then retains its brightness.....seems its isnt an alternator fault, as there is no warning lamp present on the multifunction display.......the revs after a few mins then drop to the correct tickover speed which i believe is around 750rpm......when i looked under the bonnet, i noticed oil that has dripped onto the bottom tray and upon further inspection, there is oil albeit built up around a large rubber hose leading to what i believe is the egr valve area. this hose sits at the back of the engine and it seems to begin from the front of the car. the car has done 12300 miles and is due a service, but with the issues i mentioned earlier....will it be a dealer fix? provided they know what the problem is? and would it be covered under the warranty? any advice on this would be much appreciated.regards andrew

the revs rising to 1000 rpm at tick over is the car cleaning the dpf. nothing to worry about. if you get out you will notice the exhaust fumes smell quite strange too.

| I noticed my revs rising a few times, not sure why, mainly after a long thrash or longish run. Took it to the garage for something else and told them, they didnt know why or what it was. Faith in garages huh?

yep that smell is part of the cleaning process as well as the rise in revs. it reminded me of burning rubber.

many thanks barrabbas for your information on the dpf being cleaned....i do have the car going into dealers for a check on the egr valve as i was told to take it out and clean it if it was contaminated with oil.....and i'm thinking...hang on here .its only a yr old..and i mentioned the remaining warranty and dealer said bring it in and we'll do a full interrogation and see if there are any faults and repair free as required.and a courtesy car thrown in too......bet it isnt a superb tho lol
