Default Warranty nearly up...!

My 1.9TDi (130) Elegance is three years old at the end of Feb 08. By then it will have done around 40,000 miles, so I'll be keeping it - at least until the new model is readily available.

Question is - as it's now telling me its due a service, are there any particular items I need to double check before the warranty runs out (and the MOT is due)? Anything that gets a bit suspect at this age?

The only niggles I have are the sat nav/stereo/multidot recurring problem experienced by many, and an annoying creak from the dash on uneven road surfaces (from the cover over the n/s airbag?). I must admit, apart from that the car's been ace, so I'd hate for something avoidable to hit me with a bill in March/April!

As ever - advice, opinions and incoherent mumblings gratefully received.

Just remembered - I did have alternator failure in August last year (fancy forgetting that!)

cheers

I'd pop it into a dealer in a few weeks time, with a list of anything you want checking out or fixing (like the bits you've mentioned above).

Whereabouts in Cheshire are you BTW?

I have just been in this same situation and also went thru the same thing with my old Octy a few years ago. In both cases the dealers did an end of warranty check which basically gives the car a good going over, as well as having the mot and an inspection which are all due together. If you do this with a bit of time to spare before the warranty runs out (a couple of weeks is enough), any faults found that are covered by warranty can be sorted before it runs out.

Get the MOT done by a trusted independent - a VAG dealer won't do any warranty work which is "awkward" ie non profitable. Do it a month early.

The obvious things to check are water ingress, front suspension and trackrod joint wear. Have a very careful listen for worn valve cam lobes (ticking at idle) although the AWX engine is usually OK if the correct oil has been used. The climate control servos are worth looking at too.

My advice is to take it to a non Skoda garage to have a once over, because its been my experience that Skoda dealers are unable to find faults. I took my 1.9 to my local dealer three times to have the same thing looked at and each time they failed to find the fault. I took it to the non Skoda dealer where I purchased the car and they found the fault within minutes. I then got my non Skoda dealer to call the Skoda dealer and tell them what was wrong with the car. After the Skoda dealer having the car for two days, they told me they needed to order parts which would take a week - even though they knew the fault before hand. The car was returned to me with the rubber on the drivers inside door handle cut to shreads.

Good old Skoda dealers! I cant wait for my waranty to run out so I never have to have anything to do with Skoda!

I'm in sunny south Manchester but have the luxury of a WA postcode!
