Wink Reprogram key remote for free

Here's a tip for you:

My Fabia key remote control recently stopped working. Thinking that it was a dead battery I replaced it, but this did not do anything. The spare key remote was still working (also 3+ years old battery). Phoned the nearest Skoda dealer/service centre and was told that the key might need to be 'reprogrammed'. This did not mean much to me, but I was quoted £46.00 (incl VAT) for the job, which I was told would be 30mins. They would need the car and the two keys; the dealer is 40 mins drive away.

Before booking the car in, I decided to check the internet and found this website: www. programyourkeys.com. Here I followed the instructions for VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda remote control reprogramming. Success - and the procedure took about 20 SECONDS!!!! Incidentally, "instructions" to reprogram remotes are also on sale on eBay for £1.99

Hope this will be of use to you.

Okay, okay, so I've had the car for 3 1/2 years and I haven't read the manual! Tell a lie - drove the car to the Alps in February this year and got my mate to look something up in the manual. Amazing what you find in there.

But what do you think about the Skoda dealer telling me to bring the car in to reprogram the keys. They could have pointed out to me that it's in the manual. Kind of makes you loose faith in the the dealer....

Does that program the Immobilisor though or just the remote?

The Immobilisor normally requires a computer and the 4 digit SKC which is what I would imagine they were preparing you for.

I think this was just the remote, i.e the key which stopped opening the car did work fine in the ignition.

Dont be too harsh on them, i've never actually managed to get it to work this way and have ended up programming them using VAS 5051. Good thing about using the diagnostic machine is you can erase all the old keys (handy if you have lost a remote) and if they dont work you can see if its the remote or the unit at fault without wondering if you coded it right.

I have just checked the programyourkeys website and there seems to be no mention of Skoda. Am I missing something? I've just coughed up for a set of instructions from eBay but would still like to get them asap (they've not arrived yet).

I have no Owners Handbook unfortunately. Are they available online anywhere? I can't find them. Anywhere I might buy a copy? Just bought a 2001/Y Fabia Comfort 1.4 Estate but it had no handbook.

Thanks.

You can order one from a Skoda dealer. According to SkodaAuto UK's website, the part number for the Fabia Owner's Manual is S5456100420. The cost is around £5.

Hi all

Ive just brought a bronze Octavia Estate TDI Elegance, and cannot get the remote central locking to work for love nor money.

Ive gone through the reprogramming guides, and replaced the batterys in both keys, but still no good.

Am i missing a trick here?

Does the central locking work from another key you have? Does the key you can't get working start the car?

Ive got 2 x Transponder keys which both start the car and unlock the central locking manually, but neither work remotley.
Its now also developed a problem whereby, the indicator ticker noise keeps randomly going off behind the dash, once youve cancelled the signal.

(Bar this, ive just given the car its first good run, and its amazing!)

I bought a new 2005 Fabia Combi, 1.4 gas (benzine) engine in August 2004 and unfortunately, this has been the most problematic car I have ever owned in 40 years of driving! It was in the shop FOURTEEN times during the two year warranty period (including 3-4 tows) plus 2 tows since the waranty expired. Right now, one of my key fob remotes quit working (my wife's works just fine) and I tried doing the nonsensical procedure in the manual ('page 40: '..resynchronise by holding a button...right...) and, the procedure at reprogramyourkeys for 1997+ vehicles, but again nothing. Does anyone know of an accurate procedure which works for a 2005 Fabia? I really hate to shell out more money to the dealer on this. Thanks!
