Tuning box

Featured Replies

For which engine? There usually is a reason they are cheap and judging what they look like they are the cheap resistor in a box jobbie which overfuels the engine and can cause long term damage.

A proper remap or BlueFin is the way to go and yes they are more expensive but it is the proper way of doing it

Don't do it - do a search on Tuning Boxes, digital and analogue(resister in a box).

Lots of threads on the forum - Digital is the only way to go if a remap is not an option - look for an additional 2 wires to the unit to power the internal electronics.

Cheap? resister boxes contain a 2p resister in a plastic box.

You get what you pay for...

I can recommend the DPT box (DieselPowerTuning.com). It's a digital one. I am constantly backing off the throttle. My 2.0PD TDI, according to the maxidot, has never returned less than 50mpg over 4000 miles. Plenty of power & torque.

eBay blows a$$ when it comes to customer service man. But they're quick enough to take fees out your account and end your auctions if you dare to put words in such as 'as new'. Punks.

If you're looking to improve performance on a budget, you should consider a postal remap.

ECU evolution do a postal remap for £150 and the maps are first rate (DNA). I have just had an ECU mapped for a TDI 110 project car and the results were great. Service is good too, which is important as the car will be out of action whilst the ECU is away.

We had a Seat Ibiza 130PD on the dyno yesterday, with a £395.00 digital box plugged in.

Results were:

160bhp and 270lbs/ft with box

185bhp and 300lbs/ft with P-Torque remap.

Figures aren't the main point here though, with a good remap the power is held much stronger throughout, power delivery is smoother, your MPG trip computer is still accurate.

A remap done correctly changes at least 8 maps, some of which are:

  • injection vs rpm:
  • injection in relation to temperature:
  • boost:
  • injection timing (on PD's)
  • torque limiters etc etc

We do offer postal remaps, although its nice to have the car in the workshop, allowing us to test drive, and run diagnostics check before mapping, and sometimes afterwards to ensure all is well.

Its also nice to have the dyno, so safe tests can be carried out off public roads
