WW VRS - Fabia vRS Combi

Featured Replies

As some of you may know Wiebo had a accident sometime ago and his tuned vRS was sadly written off due to a kinked floor pan and roof. A plan was hatched, buy a cheap PD estate and build a vRS Estate using all the mechanicals from the now bent vRS.

So I've had the car for a while, its been waiting in the corner of U18 just waiting for me to have a spare afternoon. Well today I had a spare couple of hours to make a start. Plan is to strip the car down to a shell, take the wiring loom etc out ready to transfer over to the other car. We will strip down/sell any parts we don't use.

So onto this afternoons fun, drivers door is damaged, one of the hinge pins wont come out so I vented some anger on its a55.

Turns out its a lot easier to get to the door wiring with the door like that...lol.

Next taking everything out, might get on with the dash tomorrow, see how time goes with my morning appointment.

Three of the doors and the tailgate are just fine so should net us some return. Once the interior and loom etc are removed then I can drop out the front and rear axles, fuel tank, engine and gearbox, then scrap the shell. Then starts the fun part of building up the estate.

  • I've stripped both cars, cleaned the estate and today i got the engine loom, abs pump, brake lines etc swapped. I had a mechanic friend over doing the clutch, timing belt, water pump, hybrid turbo et

  • Tell me about it, i'm always fixin them. So far in my house he has fitted a dimmer switch, something is wrong here.

  • You excited yet?

looking good, i would have been over today but we went to look at a house :)

I had a service and cambelt on this morning, then Ali made me tidy up all my crap. looks a lot neater in there now. Also got time to fit my Alpine headunit and ipod kit into the Golf so its been a productive day.

Hmmm like the sound of that, great idea.

"so it begins"

Good progress for 2 hours. The vRS doorcards, seats, dash, steering wheel, etc going in to the estate? I'm guessing the rear lights are not transposable into an estate? What's happening with the propane?

Rear lights are different and one is broken anyhow.

Its up to WW on the interior. Alot cant be swapped over so it depends on what we are going to do as some will be vRS black and some wont be, might look a bit odd.

Will have to have a word about what can be swapped and what cant be swapped - would love my heated seats etc back. Propane will probably go up for sale as I cant be bothered with it - it was great for fuel economy but I havent got the money to get the car tuned with it properly so not likely to waste Ross' time on that bit ;)

Am in Cambridge most of next week, might try and make it down next weekend though or Thu evening if you're about :)

Would imagine that's highly possible if you're using all the wiring looms as well. Would actually have a spare plug on the loom if you didn't have the heated seats in (much like I have a spare one in my engine bay for the bonnet catch thingy) Didn't your vRS have ESP as well? My head cannot get around whether that is transposable as well.

In theory yes the ESP can and if it has it (cant remember) will be swapped over. Yes theseat heating can and will be swapped over. It should in theory be as the hatchback was with the exception of the sunroof.

Why no sunroof? Thought you liked a challenge! :P

Will keep an interested eye on this one but where is WW, not heard from him on here in ages?

see post 7 of this thread, he has been posting regularly looking at his previous posts.

well done steve ;)

Top stuff, good to see this project finally gathering momentum. Must be a year or so since he crashed it! :P

Yeah and how long has it been since Bengie destroyed his gearbox?

What in a rush. me?

Nahhh

Dont distract the man - he's busy with my car

I've not posted much here and am only visiting sometimes, to be fair on Steve ;)

Too many other things going on/sort out still this year, but I'm checking every one in a while :)

And yep, it's got ESP and a few other nice things that wanna make it onto the 'new' one ;)

to be fair the biggest hold up has been me sorcing parts and waiting for the bloody things to turn up!

Great stuff - really appreciate the pics, Ross. Saves me checking up on WW's progress..

This is going to be a totally unique vehicle once sorted. And in Lummox's capable hands it will be a work of art....

Just hope that WW doesn't post up my amateur efforts at arch liner repair on his other other car (followed by his efforts at a respray :lol)

Glad it's finally got started..... Hopefully it'll be steady progress till the finished article....

Cheers

Dave.

It will be one desirable car when complete though :)

This will be a great project, really looking forward to it.

I'm sure the paint job will be better left to those other than myself

Focus ST orange? ;)

It's the colour my car will be going when I eventually decide a full respray is needed. :D

Surely a full respray is reqd after your recent mis-hap.... Just wouldn't look right having just the rear bumper resprayed. ;)

Cheers

Dave.
