Draining the fuel tank

Featured Replies

How easy is it to siphon/drain the fuel tank?

When I changed a Polo tank i managed to get a hose down the filler, and then through the sender hole under the rear seat. Did it with the Polo at the top of a steep drive, my Golf at the bottom to drain it into. That got most of it out.

Depends if your felicia has an anti syphon valve on it.

If not a doddle, just put the pipe down the filler neck and pull a light vacuum on it, then pass the other end into the other cars fuel tank as you are taking it out.

remove the back seat and access the tank through there, i belive is more confortable than through the filling pipe

you could take the fuel supply pipe off the fuel rail then short the fuel pump relay and let the fuel pump do the hard work for you, and that way the fuel would also be filtered on it's way out of the system

Which is the supply line?

the supply line normally has a white band round the end of the fuel hose, and the return has a blue band

I found the pipes on the fuel tank but I dont have a pipe to connect on to it.

Tried following the Haynes guide to having the fuel pump drain the tank but either I cant follow instructions or I just missed something. But it didnt work for me.

So i stuck a hosepipe in. Felicia on the top of the driveway and Favorit parked on the hill at the side to see if gravity would help. I think I only got about 1ltr and petrol doesnt taste nice!! also stings your skin.

What am I doing wrong?

mmm it actually taste to me like a really really really bad malt rum, brake fluid taste like ants and ATF taste like a calcium coolaid with sodium bicarbonate, the worst taste soo far is burned oil cuss' is has a blood like taste

i would try to get to the pump and just put two wires with a battery or disconnect the feed line in the engine compartment and crank the engine with no plugs on (if by some case the engine has to be turning to get fuel)

I managed to bodge a pipe onto the fuel pump and stuck the other end of the hose into the tank of the other car.

It gushes when I crank the engine, tested when stuck the hose into my jimmy can.

Better than almost drinking and getting high off the fumes

YEAH I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN... i prefer drinking straight unleaded low octane, than high octane jajajajaja  imagine going to the gas station totaly drunk and saying "well both have a pint, but don't serve him unless i tell you, he's (refering to your car) kinda an alcoholic and drinks to much, lol

ok, to the right of the battery is two connectors

unplug them both

insert a short piece of wire into terminal 3 on the 6 pin connector, and touch the other end to a suitable earth point (chassis or direct toi the negative battery terminal), then when you switch on the ignition the fuel pump will run without having to crank the engine

Willgive this a go when I get home

I wonder how many people will misread this and shove the wire into No3 the ABS light :D

Seeing how there is only me attemting to drain the tank!!!!

Well I finally changed the spirit monitor to show the Favorits mpg.

Not bad at all, but I think a good service should see the mpg figure rise a little.
