Tow Bar for Roomster. towball height 470mm and bumper cut ?

Featured Replies

Hi, this is my first post on the forum, I've just joined, I was hopoing you might be able to offer me a bit of help.

I've just had a tow bar fitted to my Roomster, was suprised to find that the bumper had to be cut and the tow ball now protrudes from it, does anyone else have a towbar fitted and can confirm the usual fitment ?

Also, the tow ball height it exactly 470mm on level ground which is a good 2inches higher than on my previous tow car. Does anyone here tow with a Roomster, could you let me know if your towball is in this range as it looks very high to me

any help would be most appreciated

thanks

Paul.

hi, yes on my roomster u had to cut the bumper for the towbar, I bought a detachable one, so could remove the hitch when not in use. I now have a scout which has a removable panel in the bumper for the tow hitch. As for hitch height my roomster "looked" right, both the trailer and the caravan that I tow were both level when attached, haven't tried to tow with the scout yet, so don't know if the hitch height is different.

Here are the instructions from Witter.

Witter Towbars - New ECApproval Towbarto be Introduced

Shows a big cut in the bumper, if you click on instructions halfway down the page.

Re Height, this taken from Brink.

Towballs :- After fitting a towbar to your customer's vehicle please explain that the height of the towbar from the centre of the ball to the ground will be between 350mm & 420mm, when the vehicle is fully laden, in accordance with Directive EC94/20. Therefore in order to attain this height, the unladen ball height will be much higher than the fully laden height & will vary depending on vehicle type.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the advice, it certainly puts my mind at rest that the fitting is correct and that the car, once laden will fall into the 350-420mm range (if perhaps at the top end) and I think I've found that I can get an attachment to raise the height of the hitch on the caravan, thus lowering the nose slightly.

Hi, the tow ball on my Roomy is a Brink fixed unit. It is 435mm to the centre.

Mine's a Westphalia on my Scout 1.9tdi and have towed with no problems.
