Featured Replies

think there is a fault with my memory seats. cant get them to memorise any settings. am i doing something wrong ? this is what i do

unlock car

get in

turn on ignition

move seat to where i want it using electric adjustment

adjust mirrors

press "set" button

press "memory 1" button within 10 secs

nothing happens. no confirmation beep. nothing.

when i try to recall mem1 i get the seat moving to some silly setting that was not set by me

when i try to use mem2 and mem3 buttons nothign happens at all

:confused::confused::confused:

just a guess but are you holding the memory 1 button until it bleeps?

  • Author

think so. will go and try it again.

called in at my local dealer this morning and they looked at it quickly and said for me to book it in for them to plug in the computer and let them have a look.

i will try again now as the car is 15ft away....

  • Author

nope...that doesnt work either

must be a fault

I am only guessing again, but I would try pressing and holding the set button too and see if that bleeps?

and then the same with the memory button

  • Author

yep - i thought of that one too. no joy.

i am following the instructions to the letter in the manual (although these might be wrong as i have found one error already - setting of the LEFT mirror position for when reverse is engaged...the manual refers to the RIGHT mirror. obviously a carry over from left hand drive vehicles !!)

Just a quick check... You are turning on the ignition first ? You can't save the seat position with the Ignition turned off. I only mention this because it is not on your list... Kind Regards Andrew

good point - its not on my list !! but i am doing it .

  • 2 weeks later...

i have the same problem, i go to my garage, and with the dealer, all works well ??!!!

if you don't move the seat enough, it's not work...

now everythink is good:)

have you tried holding the set button and seat memory button together until hearing a beep? i think that does the trick for me

  • Author

tried that but thats not how it is supposed to work .in the manual it says press set button then within 10 secs press the memory number. it did work , briefly, after I went to the dealer but its stopped again now. Grrrrrrr !

i'll go check my manual later, but i remember that mine explained it differently....

In my Octy I think I have to press the set and number button at the same time, thereafter I have to press the unlock button on the key within 10 s for it to be paired with the memory setting. I might remember it the wrong way, but I remember that the manual was wrong in this respect for the Octy so it might be a long honoured Skoda tradition...?

its very inconsistent and simply not right for a new car. I managed to get it set on the key but the position is wrong and now i cant change it. everytime i get out of the car and back in again it moves to the position saved on my key which is the wrong position !!!

Sounds like there is definitely something wrong with yours, as mine works perfectly every time, and will re-memorise the position even if you only change it by a very small amount.

I've got two keys paired with the car now, one for me, and one for the wife, and it works very well indeed.

Sounds like you need to go back to your local dealer and get them to sort it out.

bagpuss - you are right. its booked in tomorrow. they have the car all day to sort all the niggles out. The memory has been working fine all day today except if you move the backrest inclination down, then it refuses to memorise. every other movement, no matter how small, will store. its very weird.

I do think it is cool how it will memorise the lumbar postion though - not something that you often get with memory seats. Very useful as i have it off most of the time but my wife has it on.

Are you saying each key will remember a different seat position, one for you and one for the wife?...if so that is brilliant.

Dan

PS I had the official, precise line from my fleet manager yesterday over when I can expect my car...."quite soon"

Dan - yes thats right. I have got my car to do this - albeit with the wrong seat postions. when you ahve programmed the seat memory button you have 10 seconds to withdraw the key form the ignition and press the unlock button. this matches the seat memory button to that particular key. The best bit is that when you unlock the car it recognises the key and then when you open the drivers door the seat moves to that position. its cool to watch !! (although i am sure the novelty will wear off soon :o)

Our last car (A6) used to store the heater settings on the key so different drivers coudl have different settings. The superb doesnt appear to do this.

I miss the memory seats on my Edition 100 MK1, I'm 6'3" an SWMBO is 5'1" so we used to watch that seat move quite a lot!

The best (when it was working) memory I had was on a MK2 Laguna. Seats, mirrors, heating, radio all on the keys. Shame the rest of the car was an unreliable piece of junk.

well the good news is the garage have managed to replicate the fault on my seat and accept its not correct. the bad news is thay cant solve the issue as there are no faults showing on the seat ECU.

Grrrrrrrr !

they have had to refer it to skoda technical for advice and approval to replace parts.

so much for buying a new car so I dont have hassles like you get with used cars !!

Especialy one of the first of a new model of car, you are effectively Skoda's geniune pig and will be helping them solve any issues that didnt come out of their own testing!

suppose it could be worse. its not that much of an issue - just annoying as i feel lots of return visits to the dealer coming on !!

they have at least cleared the memory and keys so i can use the seats as simple electric seats with no memory for now. it was getting annoying that the seat moved to the memory position every time i opened the door on the car - the stored postion was wrong so i had to manually adjust everytime i got in. annoying if you nip to the shop / petrol etc !!!

Can I take up this comment on the lumbar support?

During the short time I had my Superb, I tried to adjust it to suit me. All I managed was to give myself an aching back. I even asked my doctor how it should be adjusted and he said to a line level with my hips, that is to make a support in the hollow of my back. I adjusted it to the max height it would go but it was still lower than that and my aches continued.

How do you have yours set?

  • Author

i have it all the way to the bottom and slightly out

its a personal thing and its why it took me 8 months to find a car that didnt give me backache. I test drove loads of cars for hours on end to find a car that suited me

not sure what you mean by "in line with your hips" ?

its very much personal preference.
