OEM Parking Sensors

Featured Replies

Hi all, can the Skoda OEM sensor kit (BEA300001) be fitted into the bump strip ? I have a 2001 hatch. And how difficult is it ?

:) Thanks, Baz.

I have recently fitted rear parking sensors, and was going to go down the route of fitting them into the rubbing strip, but couldn't get any paint to match the dull plastic look, so ended up fitting them just below the strip...

Was a really easy job to do, as loads of room behind the bumper, and a grommet is in the spare wheel well to take the wires through to the boot to connect to the reversing wire and place the buzzer, so need to remove anything, even the rubbing strip

I feel inspired so I've order a a set for the rear in matt black to go into the strip.

DragonFly, which one's have you gone for ? I'll be putting mine in the bump strip when I find the courage to drill it!! Car had a new bumper last yr and the metalic green looks a bitch to match. Wondering if the OEM one's are worth the extra ££

Baz.

The bump strips are replaceable and not that dear, so if you do get it wrong its not the end of the world.

I went for these: Reverse Parking Sensor - Rear Warning System - Rockshore Automotive

DGW, I'm considering those. Did you fit them in the bump strip ?

Thanks, Baz.

I have an Estate and that doesn't have a rear bump strip, Baz.

I was going to go for the Veba AVRS1 sensors (they even have an LED showing you the distance) as they seem to be one of the flushest non OEM sensors available, but eventually i have bought a set of Parking Dynamics PD1 sensors, twice the price but no sensors on view.

That looks really cool. Let us know how well it works! I fancy a front one as I'm rubbish at knowing where the front of the car is.

For those who have fitted the sensors - what are using for a power source?

You just tap into the reversing wire for power, or if you are fitting fronts, then I just went into a switched iginition feed - ie radio feed ;)

Yes just locate the power to the reversing light for rear sensors, however for front sensors its a good idea to be able to turn them on and off (when driving) very heavy rain/snow can activate the front sensors as they are live when the ignition is on.

Much better to take an ignition fed live to a switch then to the sensors.

The Parking Dynamics kit has arrived today, i can't believe how small the control unit is - about the size of a box of matches!

Forget to mention that part

here is where I placed my switch for ideas.....

I fitted my rear sensors this morning. After drilling the holes I fed the wires down to the middle where I taped them up.

I then pushed them through this grommet in the spare wheel well:

I stuck the buzzer next to the boot light and hid the wire behind the carpet.

I placed the control box up in the rear quarter:

After tidying up the wiring this was the end result:

That looks good. What did you use to drill the holes in the bumper, eg a cone cutter?

Just the 21mm drill bit that came with the kit.

Agreed, they do look almost recessed in the photo's, do you have a close up of them?

BTW I fitted the PD1 kit this morning as well, very easy kit to fit and so far really impressive.

Any pics re the PD1 kit especially (for total noobs like me) connecting the power bit.

Not quite clear about how this 'strip' runs round or is supposed to work?

Cheers

No pics I'm afraid, but look on their website and there is a walk through fitting guide video.

The strip is an aluminum (about 10mm) tape that you stick to the inside of the bumper, this is then connected to the control unit, this tape is the antenna for the Electromagnetic waves (normal sensors use ultrasonic waves).

As for the power, simply locate the reversing light power (12V) feed, by either a wiring diagram, multi-meter etc and splice into this (don't use a cheap and very nasty scotchlock!) i stripped about1" of insulation off the wire, twisted the parking sensor power feed wire around this stripped wire, soldered the two together and re insulated the wire again, you then just need to earth the black cable (most cars have earthing points on them - a bolt with multiple earth wires going to them).

Agreed, they do look almost recessed in the photo's, do you have a close up of them?

Although they look recessed, their not - the picture deceives!

For the PD1 kit buy it here for a fraction of the RRP

Had mine of him and came about 2 days later.

He usually only lists one at a time so if its not there then look back every few hours
