Project minter gti

Featured Replies

Well the octy vrs has gone and this will take up a lot of my time.

1992 K plate golf mk2 GTI 16v.

Standard spec but with factory ordered electric sunroof.

All bills from new.

Full service history to 80k with the car currently on 82k.

Wheels were refurbed not to long ago.

First owner had the car for 15 years.

Has a couple of poor paint repairs which will be sorted.

Removed the cheapo JVC CD player as dont have any CD's and put in a Alpine Ipod head unit to match the dash.

Gave it a good clean today.

Fitted new plates that came with the car.

  • I've got just the thing you need for your engine, looks like your inlet manifold is a 50mm jobbie. In which case, how about this to bling up the engine? Smoothed and chrome plated, very nice, wa

  • Got one almost finished and the other three in varoius stages. Managed to find the proper mk2 stereo blank at a dealers in germany after a lot of searching but finish's the dash off i think. Test

You can't beat a good Mk2

That looks pretty tidy indeed and having one owner for that length of time tends to bode well

Good luck with it - I've no doubt you'll have it upto A1 scratch in no time!

Steve

That looks seriously nice that - look forward to you getting it perfect. Would love one of these in good nick myself, a rare find these days unfortunately.

If you need any advice don't hesitate to ask - had one of these apart many a time, albeit an 8v :)

Very nice indeed!

A rare beasty indeed, only seen a few K platers and one 'L' reg at Silverstone a few years back.

Nice project, screaming out for a period headunit though and tuck that one away ;)

Mmm... valver :D

Enjoy it!

Nice.... Looks like an uber clean mk2 to me. Will you be using it as a daily?

Get rid of the naf head unit, hard slam, nice set of wide BBS RS's and it'll be sorted:rofl: (well, that'd be my pref anyway):)

Gonna be starting work on the misses mk2 driver soon.... Project ****box..:D

Goodluck with it brother..

Sweet, brings back fond memories of my old Mk2 GTI - K platers are well rare, think I've only ever seen about 2 or 3, that will be worth some dollar if you keep it mint!

I like the Mk2's but would kill for a good mk1

Looks the business and the white makes it look how an old skool gti should be

I've got a mint Mk1 tucked away:rofl: Just trying to decide what engine to put in it....:D

BBS RS's and RM's... pah!

Car has a couple of things that need to be replaced but got most on order.

Full service at the weekend and need to test the throttle switch as it seams to be sticking.

Painter has had a look and going to get the couple of dents sorted and a full paint later in the year.

Contacted local smart repair place to have a look at the drivers seat to repair the fag burn.

Both those Mk2's are nice! :D

Your yet to disappoint me with any of your projects so I'm sure you will do yet another great job on this one

seeexxxxxxx weeeeeeeee!!!!!!!

If anyone would like to donate a MK1 or MK 2 to me for my "reliving my mis-spent youth" project ;)

You've fallen on your feet there, that looks a peach. I love the rainbow interior and I've always thought white suits them the best.

Man, I miss our Mk2 :(

Thanks for the replies :D

Removed the tatty sound pad on the bonnet as it was falling apart in places. Spent two hours removing 17 years of dirt from the under side of the bonnet.

Came up a lot better than i thought it would though. Will do it again but happy for now.

Looked into the problem of the boot lock only working off the key and not on the central locking. Found the rod that moves behind the lock mech all rusted up. Removed it all and with a good clean up then a bit of grease it works a treat now.

Good progress already then - always a good sense of satisfaction from cleaning :D

Oh, and time for a new signature image? :)

Signature is done until i get some proper pics.

Replaced the rocker cover gasket along with plugs and leads this afternoon. Looked like the plugs had been in for a while. Run better this morning after sorting the throttle switch.

Starts better now and seams to be quieter when ticking over so hopefully should drive better. Will get it setup properly soon.

Well worth cleaning the idle speed control valve out, mine ran much better after de gunking that.

Cleaned that out when i removed it for the rocker gasket. No real gunk in it which is a suprise but may of bean cleaned out at last service.

P1000675-1.jpg

Still a lot to clean but looking whiter.

Next on the list front engine mount and new front tyres.

Got a pair of 195/50/15 Yoko A Drive tyres to replace the bald fronts.

Found out the new rocker cover gasket decided to pop out in one corner and **** oil all over the place.

Had to take it all apart and do it again :( see if it holds this time as had my doubts when i fitted it. Crap GSF gasket so VW one on way.

Missing gromets under sills found in my parts bin and fitted.

Cleaned up the engine bay a bit more while i was at it.
