31st July 2009 - Hullavington Airfield Trackday -

Featured Replies

UPDATE

- We can book as many or as few in as we like - just mention Briskoda.net (Skoda Owners Club) and you will be associated with the group booking.

- The day will cost £99 regardless of how many people we book in

- If we get 10 people booked in, every main driver will get 20 minutes of free track tuition.

My advice would be to book over the phone - see www.motorsport-events.com for details, ask to book in for the 31st July Hullavington Airfield day and mention "briskoda.net (Skoda owners club)" or my name - "Ed Yarnold".

Deadline for our group booking is 10th July 2009. People will be able to book after this date, but free spaces are no longer guaranteed!

Please post in here if you have booked in and we can keep a running tally of how many people from here are going!

[[ END UPDATE ]]

If we manage to get 10 cars from here booked in to this event, all main drivers can get a free 20 minute track tuition session. You don't have to be in a Skoda, you can be in any car you want.. just make sure you hold off on booking until we can do it all together and get the promotion freebie!

If you take a group booking of 10 or more places all main drivers will receive a complimentary 20 minute tuition session from a professional driver coach

After having had a fantastic time on the 5th June with my mate Craig as a passenger (see

), I'm going to be taking the Fabia along to another day on the 31st July 2009 at the same venue. My mate craig will also be coming along in what was previously Tom_Vrs's BMW 328i.

I'm hoping that with a touch more notice and after my rave reviews in the other thread, a lot of other Skodas might be able to make it.

It seems they have dropped the price from £109 to £99. I think passengers are £10 and extra drivers are £20. Helmet hire is available on the day, but it could be worth confirming with them beforehand. We will get free track tuition for 20 minutes for each driver if we manage to get 10 cars from here booked in! £99 for a open pit track day + tuition is fantastic value in my opinion!

Here are my major points about the day on 5th June. I can't guarantee the same will be true of 31st July, but I will be booking in anticipation of it being very similar.

+ Massive open airfield. The circuit is marked out by cones - if you happen to **** up, the worst that might happen is a scratch on your bumper from one of the cones. Quite often the worst that can happen is you will end up on the grass. On the day I went, the worst thing that happened was a Lotus Elise span out (didn't hit anything), and the Citroen Saxo decided it would be a good idea to spill petrol all over the track (oops!)

+ The surface whilst not incredibly smooth is certainly grippy enough and balanced enough for my car to remain completely stable throughout the day.

+ The marshalls are very helpful, flag clearly and are always on the ball.

+ The track day organisers know what they are doing, put safety first and will not hesitate to eject anyone misbehaving themselves or wrecking your day.

+ Everyone is polite, there is no unnecessary competitiveness and everyone is made to feel welcome.

+ There's a fantastic mix of high speeds (95mph in a non-remapped fabia) and challenging corners

+ I didn't have to queue for track time once. There were 22 cars around with a 15 car limit and there was only ever one car waiting in the pits to join track, and they were only waiting for a gap in the traffic, not for someone else to come off.

See

Two words of warning:

1) The massive long straights ARE demanding on the brakes - if you're running standard size brakes on the front, I'd suggest you keep sessions short and sweet. If you haven't changed your brake fluid recently, it could be worth changing ;)

2) If you push hard the day WILL shred your front tyres in particular. Mine lasted very well up until lunchtime, after that when I started pushing it they wore out very quickly indeed. :D I started the day on 2.8mm or so and left with 1.6mm of tread. This was with about 2.5-3 hours of track time, 1 hour of which was driven very hard indeed.

I'm hoping in particular that I can see at least one of faboka_vrs and PastyBoy (no pressure guys! ;)) there ;).

Friday, 31 July Hullavington Full Circuit Open Pitlane, 100 db £99.00

Track Days at Hullavington Airfield Circuit from Trackdays.co.uk

Other machinery that turned up on my day included a very fast Sierra Cosworth, a BMW 7 series, 4 or 5 caterhams, a couple of lotus elisses, a citroen saxo and a mkII golf. Those are the only ones that really stick in my memory. Oh, there was also a very fast indeed BMW E36 3 series (one of them) that was running on race slicks that was incredibly quick until it's clutch master cylinder failed.. :D

I will hopefully have a video of the track session up later in the week for some others to be sucked in with me! :D (see

)

Oh Ed, how my arm hates being twisted!

I'll check my calendar to make sure there are no clashes (being a Friday i doubt it!) but you should be able to add a 3rd vehicle and probably 2 drivers to your negotiations to get an even better deal.

I'm guessing there is somewhere relatively secure to leave spare wheels & tyres ready for the drive home?

Any idea if once a driver is paid up they are linked to a certain vehicle or could things be changed around? - (do you see whats coming? ;)) - say if you wanted to try a remapped Fabia or someone asked nicely to try the Beemer :D

Any registered driver can drive any registered car as far as I am aware. There were a couple of lucky people who got to drive an Ariel Atom around, I was too shy to ask! I have got a pending enquiry with them about if I turn up with two cars, do I have to pay £99 twice or can I pay £99 + £20 for an extra driver and have both of the cars on track consecutively (me in one, second driver in the other). When I know the answer to that question I'll let you know.

Let's start a proper list of 'interested' parties

1. yegnold + 1 extra driver

2. PastyBoy + 1 extra driver

If I can get 5 or more people interested from here I can see what I can do with regards to prices if we book in bulk. Not promising anything but could be worth a shot. We might be able to blag a free instructor session each or something, you never know.

Excellent!! Time to hang around the pit lane looking for someone who needs a break but their car doesn't!

See what you can sort out Ed - i think £99 is a bargain anyways but anything else we can get is a bonus!

Oh and hurry up with the videos! :P

£99 is a bargain and is already down from the £109 advertised only yesterday. Glad I didn't book then!!

Almost tempted to stump up the £99 for the 328 myself :P

Doesn't matter if you're not in a skoda - any cars are most welcome just make sure you do it through this group booking to be eligible for the free tutor session :)

I'll register a "funds permitting" interest. :D

I'll know more when back from Hols @ the begining of July

Going to add "Potentials" to the list to see how many poeple I may have. We can have more than 10 by the way - there is no limit, so don't feel you'll be stealing other peoples' places! If we could get 15 or so that would be even better, but I understand that given the state of things at the moment not as many people as usual will be able to make this :)

hey guys ill be up for this dwight my bro (dc14) told me about this today so im down guys. oh yeah im the youngest one ddr also being my bro lol... put me down guys mk2 20vt ;)

My bad - should have been obvious really.. don't know much about golfs though!

As long as we have more than 10 this will be fantastic, as soon as I have 10 "near definites" (excluding potentials) I will commit to the offer and we can proceed with further arrangements. :)

if you dont mind ed ive just chuked this up on rubbadubz to see if there is interest as i know there are a few track loons in the club!

looks like we cud have a sibling grudge match on lmao!!:D

  • 2 weeks later...

Ed - any update on a booking deadline?

I'm going back to Pastyshire for a break in a couple of weeks and am gunna put pressure on my brother to come along with his MR2 (although he has only had it 3 weeks and Facebook is already saying he wants to sell it!)

Maybe a track day will be all he needs to reignite the spark that made him buy the bloody thing in the first place!
