use carb cleaner for the egr or you can buy a specialist "EGR cleaner" i've heard its avery dirty job so dont wear your sunday best and advise using latex or nitrile gloves. You may need a new seal on the egr once you re fit it.

For the turbo i've hear some people using carb cleaner but good results i've heard from using innotec. I'll be buying this soon when the time comes for mine to be serviced.

Innotec Supplies Ltd. - Turbo Clean Set

Innotec is excellen, used it on my Golf about 6 months ago. Prior to that I went through about 6 months of trial and error changing things to see if it would help, Vac pipes N75 etc etc. No probs since, highly recommended.

Just found you can buy the innotec turbo clean on e bay:)

I cleaned my manifold with 'Wynns' Carb Cleaner from Halfords for about £6 - I would recommend you buy 2 cans though! And it really is the messiest job - I used an old plastic washing up bowl so I could leave it to sit for a bit with the fluid in.

This raises an interesting question, which is whether the dealer service intervals have any overlap for turbo servicing at all ?

And if not, why not ?

One of those jobs that will never be included in a standard service schedule. Too much labor and risk of damaging turbo seals if cleaning stage goes wrong. Along the lines of "If it aint busted don't fix it."
