Recommendations for 4th Service

Featured Replies

My manual PD130 diesel is booked in for its 4th Variable service next week (will be approx 66,000 miles). The following is being done as well as the service:

Cambelt and Water Pump are being changed.

Pinch Bolts lubricated

Pollen Filter Housing repair as a preventative maintenance.

There are a few other bits and bobs being done that are specific to my car, but is there anything else you would recommend be done / checked / changed?

Is there a definitive list of what needs to be done at each service as standard? (Fuel filter / air filter / pollen filter / climate control gubbins etc etc)

The service book is gibberish. Change all filters. Change all of the belts, cambelt tensioner + idler, fit a pattern water pump with metal impeller. Consider replacing the one-way alternator pulley - it will be on its last legs and causes no end of trouble and damage. Make sure the pinch bolts and also those for the track rod ends are taken completely out and greased throughout their length. Do this every year.

Carefully remove the number plate lamp lenses and treat the rusty metal you will find around it with Dinitrol. The idiots used foam underneath as a water trap.

Consider cleaning the in-tank fuel strainer if you have any doubts about fuel cleanliness.

Whilst the front is pulled, check the nut in the centre of the aircon compressor for tightness - it's an expensive failure when the pulley falls off. Treat all the rusty bits you will find when the front is pulled with Dinitrol.

Lubricate the wiper spindle bearings and take out the 2 plenum drain bungs - one under the battery and one under the sevo (this has a pipe running through it).

There are loads of other B5.5 weak spots but that will do for starters - the Internet is the way to find them. The Americans are far more canny at identifying and fixing the problems - the Brits just sit back and let them all happen. (The dealers love it).

Usually does not fall off, but the loose nut wears out the electromagnetic airco clutch very quickly (~stlg300 to replace).

I superglued the new nut after the old one fell off on my Octavia 1.9TDI. You'll only notice this by a slightly increased engine noise when airco is on. By then the clutch was already half-worn. Still, 5 years later it is still going. This was one of the first things I checked on my Superb, thankfully on 2.5V6 the mounting is different

Anyway, for the rest of the items, I just posted an outline here: http://briskoda.net/superb/superb-service-interval/149146/

Please mix and match with already listed items :)

Thanks for the info - added a few bits to the list for the garage to do. :)

While I agree with some of roto's comment's it all sounds very doom and gloom to me and unless you have been driving your motor like a mad man, most of these items will not be effected...........
