Clicking noise in dash?!?!

Featured Replies

Having just got my octavia vrs i have noticed that there is an annoying clicking sound coming from what sounds like inside the dash.

Its the same noise as when you put the indicator or hazzards on.

Can anybody shed any light on this??

Thanks

Dan

Just had a look and it seems like a very common fault on octavias!

The noise is comin from behind the hazard swith in the dash which points to the relay

Will this need replacing or might it just be a dodgy connection??

Are you saying that there is a clicking noise when the hazard warning lights/indicators are not selected? The relay is integral with the hazard warning switch.

Yes mate. it does it when they are not selected and is starting to annoy me!!

A quick search shows that the indicator stalk is the most likely culprit, with the hazard warning switch also a possibility. Cleaning the indicator stalk contacts might help.

I will get on it tomorrow!!

Quickest way to do this is to buy a spraycan contact cleaner and use liberal amounts into the indicator stalk's root(the part where it's connected to the steering column) in all three positions. Fixed my clicking sound in one go. Cheap and fast

I remember reading on the forum about the relay itself failing also. Maybe this has happened to you. IIRC there were instructions on how to repair the unit(even though it is a sealed unit) on the forum also. Happy searching :o
