We will have at least one non drinker in our midst, it's just a question of whether you want to let a hormonal pregnant woman drive any of your cars :D (Mine is ruled out due to the seat thing)

I believe the eatery is near to the circuit or Center Parcs or something? I'm thinking minibus taxi, it'd be dirt cheap between 8 of us. Job done!

I've checked and it's near the Ring, so quite a way from the cabin. I'm sure we can rustle up 2 cars between the lot of us. :)

Sunday night we'll eat at the place in Gunderath which is quite nice. :)

If not......... one car, one taxi! A whole world of possibilities await!

We could try for the world record number of people in an MX5 :P

What about attempting one of those moving human pyramid things with roof down?!

  • Author

Personally I think a convoy involving Col's MPS or your Octy / Jomo's car much better :D

Hmmm I was plumbing for the human pyramid & juggling some flaming sticks thro hoops of cheese? Would that be a bit too involved then? Lol Lol.Wot's an MPS??

Wot's an MPS??

A rather nippy Mazda 3, a white one in this case. I suspect it will be quite a tool for the Ring :D

T'is a shame but I will have to pull out of the "Ring trip" as no-one has been forthcoming with sharing the journey from the North-West! I was hoping one of my friend's could make it and after Jason had booked the cabin I thought I would agree to it and share with a fellow Briskodian instead but no-one has shown interest (I did ask at the North-west meet!), so with much regret I will have to offer my space in the cabin up and if someone wants my place they can pay you Jason and you can refund me later.

Been interesting reading the restrictions on the Nurburgring for this year posted by one of the members - hope it doesn't spoil your enjoyment guys!

Megane R26-R is 8:26 from memory (full lap not BTG which knocks 1.7km off! ) so for a stock MPS to do 8:31, good effort  I wouldn't go trying to beat that in September though. ;)

Defo can't make it, I'm buying a car!

Found out what is going on on the saturday morning now, whilst TF is not on. It seems there is some form of classic rally, in much the same form as that thing James May et.al did on Top Gear last week. :) Should be some NICE machinery to check out I think.

"A Gleichmäßigkeitsprüfung (abbrev. GLP, German for regularity test) is a motorsport event where precise timing is winning, not outright speed.

Mainly Classic cars events like the modern Mille Miglia are held as GLPs.

A special GLP series is held at the Nürburgring, on the 20.832 km long Nordschleife. On seven Saturday mornings, between 9:30 and 13:00, about 100 regular road legal cars take part, each carrying a driver and a co-driver, both fitted with helmets. They have to do 12 laps (250 km in total), with lap times in the range of 10 minutes to 15 minutes, or average speeds between 125 km/h and 83 km/h.

Each team can set its own target times twice, which has to be repeated three times each, for a total of 8 laps counting towards the results. The remaining four laps are in-lap, two pitstop laps, and out-lap. Time is measured in 1/100 seconds, and results are given in 1/10 seconds. Winners typically accumulate about 4 points, or 0.4 seconds, which means they cross the start/finish line with a precision of about 5/100 of a second for each of eight laps. Top-10-finishers manage about 1/10 sec, midfield-finishers about 1/2 to 1 second or more per lap.

Stopping or very slow driving is not permitted within 1 km of the start/finish line, but there is a "waiting zone" on the very long and wide straight called "Döttinger Höhe". Thus, competitors can drive for about 20 km as they like, enjoying the famous Green Hell of the Nordschleife while track marshalls provide similar security as in races (unlike in the public access hours).

Co-drivers are a vital part of the success, as they usually do the timing, guiding the driver to the finish line with 1/10 sec precision or better. Some co-drivers get sick during the 2 or 3 hours of driving, though."

Ive posted this on the mazda forum in an attempt to fill the last place... tho i dont think anyone is man enough on there... bl00dy poofs

Its the thought of that long line of cones leading from the barrier to the track that puts them off :P

i'd go but the poor little mk 2 needs a rebuild now after a rather long excursion to the ring last weekend:D

I've got a mate with a Cossie that's always wanted to go, I'll ask him tonight but suspect he will say no as it'll be at least £200 in fuel for him :(

Well - Sunparks have taken their dosh off me. The bank gave me a rate just below 1.14 which luckily is still below the £70 each mark, just. :D Got another 25 euros off the bill too after spotting something a bit sneaky in there.

Rough itinerary is as follows now:

5am, land dunkirk

9am-10am, arrive at the Ring, check out cars, buy lap tickets.

TF Friday afternoon, although I recommend checking in to the cabin and relaxing / eating / drinking. Maybe one slow lap.

Saturday - Viewpoint to watch the classic car rally / timing thing going on, on the Nordschleife

Saturday PM - TF - I aim to do 4 or 5 laps

Saturday late - group meal at the Pistenklause

Sunday - TF all day - 10 laps for me, or whatever I've not used.

Sunday late - eat at the restaurant in Gunderath (very nice)

Monday am - visit the castle after checking out the cabin

Monday lunch - grab some food and make a bolt for Dunkirk.

 Subject to change / adaption - whatever

Sounds like a plan!!
