Symphony Stereo Turning Itself Down..

Featured Replies

Stereo seems to have a funny problem, after having it on for at least 10 mins, at higher than normal volume, with BASS control on Max.. volume seems to go down and even turning it up does not have any effect... Anyone seen this before..???

cheers

I think its some kind of overheating protection.

Yes , mine does it and its most annoying! Its probably the only thing id like to change about the standard set up , except the speakers.

Have you seen the FAQ? There is a section about improving the bass from the front speakers, i'm going to try it this weekend, as my left front speaker rattles anyway.

Phil.

Its nothing to do with the GALA system is it????

BTW does anyone have a problem with GALA resetting its self if the ignition is turned off i.e. i set GALA to max(9) save the setting, turn off the ignition, and GALA is reset to the default (5)

Yeah, my GALA sets itself to 5, even if I go for a moderate 7 on it.

Phil - is that rattling a sort of "farty" noise at volume/bass? If so, get your

dealer to replace it under warranty. Or save yourself the hassle and stick

some aftermarket ones in anyway... ;)

No the GALA system is OFF... I hate it anyway.....

Also removed front door speaker, and there is a load of spongey foam forming the backing material, I take it I can just cut a square out of the bottom?

the Symphony looks very much like the VW Gamma system, I had no problems in terms of over heating with that!!!!

The dealer is replacing it... BUT I'm planning my upgrade to a proper quality system using Alpine headunit, changer and front component speakers, with my at the moment unused amp and sub....

Don't know what to do with the rear speakers, either disconnect the rear tweeters, and replace the rear bass units with full range

speakers for rear fill or buy another parcel shelf and do a 6 x 9 into mdf install... but I reckon that might be overkill on the BASS front...

I use to have the same problem in my Octavia L&K. The Radio model was a Symphony with cassete and has control for a 6CD changer.

Dealer change the radio 2 times and toll me they have the same problem with many car that have this same radio model.

They put me now a Symphony radio with CD and it also control the 6 CD changer and is working perfectly without any problem.

My car was in guarante so they not charge me nothing. :D

What Symphony radio models is the one that is giving you people problem?

Its the radio cassette unit...

I will be purchasing a good Alpine setup soon so I will only require a working unit to fit back in when the car gets sold...

If you install a aftermarket radio...........Make sure they power the amplifer for the factory antena or you will have bad reception.

This happend to my wife Octavia Combi were they install a Alpine radio and forgot to power the antena, then they fixed.

Yes, me and my wife are Skoda lovers............I have a Octavia L&K and my wife has a Skoda Elegance Combi. :D

  • 2 weeks later...

I noticed my Symphony stereo turning itself down as above, used to happen in my gf's Passat too.

Mine's the version that runs the 6 disc CD multichanger.

What's the GALA then ? Or should I just read the manual ? :)

I think the GALA is that the set up of the volume to rise up by itself when you are going faster. This way you can hear the music when the car is doing some road noise.

Belive me. I check all this and the radio has still the same problem.

If you touch the backgroung of the volume knob when the music turning itself down you wild find is HOT.....So I think the amplifer inside the radio was getting hot because of the power it need to produce for the bass.............and was lack of power.

My Dealer change the radio 2 times and toll me they have the same problem with many Octavia and Fabia cars that have this same radio model.

They solve it, installing a Symphony CD Radio that it also control the 6 CD changer and is working perfectly without any problem.

If you car is under guarantee, talk to the dealer about this upgrade.

That's the radio I'm having problems with !

I'll harass the dealer, the car is only 2 weeks old so still WELL under warranty ! Ta. :)

I have had a constant ball ache with my radio ever since I got the car.

It has never worked properly. It's going in tomorrow to see what the prob is.

I have virtually NO bass at all through the speakers, just vibration and crap sound. A modicum of bass causes the radio to turn itself down to about no 5 and then renders itself useless.

Basically it's rubbish packaged as more expensive rubbish to save money. There is also quite a variance in sound. Apparently there are 2 different manufacturers of the radio's. Some sound a fair bit better than others.

I think all of them seem to be fitted with some kind of attenuator that automatically kills your volume if you turn it over the sound of a mouse farting!!

My solution is to take your stereo out (and speakers - such high quality) put it all in a wheelie bin and then push it quickly down a very steep hill!!!!!!!!!

I'd like to see it turn itself down then!!!!!!!!!!!

 :speaker:

Don't hold back now, Andre - let us know what's on your mind!

Sooner you upgrade your sound system the better I'd say... preferably without the volume gremlins. Oh - remember to put neon in your boot too for the 'pro look' :D

Eh Stimps,

Next thing i'll be in 3 fast 3 bloody furious if I don't get this lot sorted....aaahhhhhh

Nevermind, it all gets hauled out in 2 weeks time and some fun kit is a goin in. Yeh baby!!!

Neons..............nahhh, it's a company car you know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whats wrong with neon in the boot?

;)

Ian..............if I thought for a minute U were serious..........................I might....................Be worried...........

Time to get worried Andre! :D
