Show me your boost guage!

Featured Replies

I think I'm settled on a New South boost guage, it is the closest to 'stock' looking that I can find, the only problem I've got is where to mount it.

The air vents look pretty cool but I'd like it to look like it's supposed to be there if you get what I mean.

I really like this pod -

and this one

but it is only listed for the Golf MK4, it might fit but I'm not sure.... They don't list an Octavia on their site but neither do they list a Fabia and I've seen one fitted to a Fabia in the Freedom gallery.

So, where do you all have your guages fitted?

I'm open to ideas :)

I have the twin pod going in mine (boost & EGT / A-F ratio. It already has the single (centre) pod.

Do a search for my pics that'll show you. CLICK SILVER BULLET BELOW!! page 2

Love your car mate, I wish I had standard wheels on mine!

Thanks for the photo on the pod, is it a New South one?

On another track, are Owen Developments still going? That name is a blast from the past!!!

I went with this approach.

Hey Stevie how did you go about your front bumper mod for the FMIC?

I think you mean me, Steve already has his done.

I am starting possibly today if I get the other DIY jobs done. I have the week off so lots of time to do it.

Post pics when done.

Hi Bowders,

I am literally thinking of ordering one of those vent pods today. Been trying to decide which pod to get for the last few weeks. I want something as OEM as possible and this seems to fit the bill the best.

Thanks for posting the pic.

Hi Mate, no worries.

I went for it because it is OEM style, and I not that fussed with the heater vent not working.

I also have the Skoda SAT NAV so did not have the space to fit a gauge pod in the centre dash.

Still Looking good there Rob.

Ditto,

Just ordered one from SWG Motorsports but I didnt like their boost gauge so will have a look round the net to find one I like the look of.Actually your boost guage looks very cool:D

I posted my old vent to SWG to get them to mod it as it was cheaper and then got a spare from scrappy in case I swap it to standard later.

I did not like there boost gauges either and wanted a green illumination to match the rest of the dash. Ended up buying a Auto Meter model 3304.

Also this gauge has a silver brushed alloy ring around the gauge that matches the dash clocks better.

Tip. Be very careful sliding the boost gauge into the vent pod as it is a tight fit. use a little washing up liquid to allow a bit of movement. I also had to drill out the back of the vent a little to allow a cleaner routing of the wires and boost pipe(stop any bending of the pipe).

Yeah don't forget to get a green LED for your gauge! It's all about the green.

That's settled it, after seeing Bodge's guage pod, that's what I'll be getting :D

this is mine that ive made

Yeah don't forget to get a green LED for your gauge! It's all about the green.

My illummination is Blue LED with Red needles (and window/mirror/all other buttons) so dont want green as it wont match:P

I've ordered a VW (Blue) New South Performance boost gauge.

Auto meter gauges are generally green illumination

Hi everyone,

I'm going to have a go at fitting my boost gauge this week. I've never fitted one before has anyone got any advice on fitting it for a novice.

I've gone for the vent pod (drivers side to keep it as OEM as possible.

I'm reading as many old posts as I can find relating to boost gauge's. This is a few of the things on my mind so far:

Best place to go through the bulk head?

Where to connect the boost hose?

How to wire in the gauge?

There are several grommets in the bulkhead you can go through, the best place to connect the pressure hose for the gauge is on to the fuel pressure regulator at the right hand end of the fuel rail, if you cut the existing hose going into the top of it and put a t-piece in there then run the pressure hose for the boost gauge off of that. There's a picture on Robs page:

http://www.pimpmyskoda.co.uk/Gauges.htm

As for wiring it in you'll need a live feed and an earth plus a switched feed for the boost gauge lights, probably the best bet for both of those would be to tap into the wiring for the light control dial if you are going to put the boost gauge into the drivers side vent.

Thanks Chicken (and Rob).

I'm sure it will all be obvious when you get going but want to be as prepared as possible.

Hi Mark

Rob and chicken_eyebrow has covered this well so with this as well you should be sorted.

First thing you should do is remove the old vent. This is a callenge. I would remove the side panel to expose the fuse box. Then remove the screws holding the fuse box to the dash. Push the fusebox into the dash to get some access to the back of the vent.

This will help you push out the vent from the back. The vent has 4 clips(2 top and 2 bottom) These are a pain to get to, as you can't really see them until the vent is out. . Carefully get some flat screwdrivers or something like a old credit card and insert at the top and bottom ends of the vent. This is where you could do with a second pair of hands, as working from the hole where the fuse box was you need to push out the vent. It needs some force. I had a spare vent i could use clips from if i lost a few as they can spring off. You may be lucky and it comes out easier.

Also remove the lower dash cover that sits above the foot pedals so you can get access to routing the boost pipe better.

Then I would pull out the dimmer / headlight adjuster switch as you will be using this to connect your 2 wires up to, so the gauge lights up with the dash illumination.

Next thing you should do is extend the wires to you with the gauge for the illumination so you have enough length to route and cut back where required.

Then hook up the boost pipe.

Put some washing up liquid around the gauge as it is a tight fit in the pod to allow for removing if needed. Carefully feed wires and piping through the boost gauge air vent

and slide in gauge into vent. Note how the wires and piping route at the back of the vent when gauge fully inserted. The vent still has the flap on it that closes off the airflow. I sealed mine shut as did not want hot air passing onto the back of the gauge. I had to drill out and widen a hole to allow for a clean routing of wires and pipping which took away some of the flap. I then sealed the hole with tiger seal.

When happy with how it looks add the clips from the original vent to the gauge vent feed the wires and pipping through the dash vent hole and install new vent/gauge into the dash.

Then connect up the red and black wires from the gauge to the dimmer switch.

Black wire should be joined up to the brown earth wire. Sorry can't remember the illumination wire colour. You can test this easy by process of illimination on the remaining wires by checking if the boost gauge lights up when switching on the side lights.

Next trim up the wires when you are happy that you have them working and re insert the dimmer switch.

Now feed the boost pipping along the back on the lower dash behind the center dash consule and into the passenger side footwell.

Remove the glove box bend down and look up where the top of the carpet ends. There is a rubber grommet there. You can use this. This will take the piping out under the main wiring loom black plastic box that is near the suspension turrent and loops under the airbox. I would remove the airbox to give you more room.

Now you need to locate Fuel pressure regular. Shown in the center of this pic.

Oscar217.jpg

Remove the original pipe and add in a T piece to attached the boost gauge hose to. Then add a small length of hose and reconnect it back to the FPR.

Refit fusebox and side cover

Stand back and admire your work.

Cheers guys. Massive thanks for the advice

Just got to find some time to fit it:rolleyes:
