Cruise control cleaning

Featured Replies

I am trying to clean the cruise control switch.

I have removed the cruise control switch unit from the indicator stalk.

Now I assume the two screw are of the Torx type. The smallest torx I have is a T2.

Smaller screw drivers than T2 seem hard to come by. Am I doing the wrong thing?

open this site you will find full detail for cleaning the stalk

Out of interest, what was the nature of the fault that necessitated you stripping the switch down for cleaning in the first place?

The cruise does not always activate due to dirty contacts. Apparently this gets worse until cruise does not work at all. Tried a couple of car parts shops and they didn't have anything smaller than a Torx T10.

Try Maplin. They do a set.

I found a screwdriver set with really tiny torx fittings at a place that sells electronic components and tools.

As to wiring up the seats, yeah I saw your post & piccies - looking good! No idea how to wire them up, mine were factory fitted. Maybe see if Shark_90 can help with that too? :)

Hi all recently purchased a octavia 1.9 tdi auto dsg estate only to find out the cruise control ain't working.I tried cleaning out the switch but still no joy,any ideas what i could try next and how please help.

Hi thanks will get it checked and see what codes there are.If it's the stalk is it easy to fit ?

The problem can be the plug that this little circuit board plugs into in the stalk. or rather the connections on this circuit board that fit into said plug.

After soldering these contacts (to make a better contact) I have not had a problem with my cruise control since.

I used a can of contact cleaner from Maplin ~£2

did the trick.

I used Wynns electrical contact cleaner to complete restore the OBC buttons.

could be the switch on the clutch pedal if cruise is completely inopervative,

A switch on the brake pedal ?

A switch on the brake pedal ?

If your CC has never worked Jayson, then this switch is worth looking at next  (not checked but there must be one, look at the back of the pedal).

If it is intermittent, ie works sometimes & not others, read and act on #19 post. Mine has worked ever since.
