new octy 1.4 tsi dsg clunking noise on 1st and second gear

Featured Replies

I justed picked up my new octy II . It is the fl model 1.4 tsi with dsg and it makes a clunking noise when the dsg shifts from 1st to second or the other way around. I notice it when i step on the gas and when i release it. You can hear it with the windows down and without any music but still i find it pretty annoying !!.

I was wondering if there is another owner of the same car that has noticed something similar.

Dealer claimed that it is normal and that all the 1.4 tsi with dsg do the same noise.

Thank you in advance.

Sounds like a an engine/gearbox mount to me but maybe they do all do it??!!

That's what the dealership claimed . However they told me that this is their first 1.4 dsg octy that they see. Their answer was based mostly from golf's 1.4 tsi dsg.

I was hoping to find other owners with the same car to share their experience on that matter

Have had my 1.4TSi DSG since end May - smooth as silk and no clunking noises whatsoever. Very pleased with the car. Tried a Golf SE 1.4 TSi DSG prior to ordering my Octy - same story with that, smooth as silk and no clunking.

Back to the dealer I think.

Thank you for the input. So no clunking noise whatsoever going from 1st to 2nd gear. I guess i will be taking it to the dealer again.

It scares me that they haven't dealt with dsg gearbox before. I will see what happens and i will post the results.

Thanks.

Try and find a Golf mk VI to try to see if that makes the noise, more common the Octy as it hasn't had it for very long

I've got a 1.4TSI DSG and there's no clunking noise, at least not that I've noticed in the week I've had it. Will keep my ear open and let you know if it does clunk.

Please do and let me know. Just accelerate a little bit and then leave the gas and then step on it again for a couple of times and let me know if you hear a clunking noise.

Thank you.

no clunking noise on 1.8 TSI dsg

As already stated, mine is a non clunking 1.4TSi DSG - a very refined and pleasant transmission coupled to a great engine.

Happy as Larry, whoever he is?

Had a bit of a drive with plenty of stopping and starting and crawling along at walking pace before accelerating, to get plenty of 1st to 2nd changes, listening very hard.

Of course started to hear some sounds, but nothing I'd describe as a clunk and certainly nothing I'd notice under normal driving conditions.

Time for the update on the clunking noise.

It took me a while to bring it to the dealer but i managed to do it yesterday. I was lucky enough to find the chief mechanic available. He took the time to check the noise thoroughly . At first he thought that the noise was coming from underneath where he checked a couple of connections and he lubricated them. However the noise still occured only at first and second. Then he thought that it was coming from the center of the car and he managed to find it. It was coming from one the bases that the engine is supported. he applied some more lubrication there and NO NOISE. It appeared that 2 metal parts where touching each other and produced the clunking noise.

I was thrilled that it got fixed and now i have to say that it runs smoothly with no noise. What a relief.

Thank you all for your input. They were kind enough to activate with the use of the vag-com the daylights as well and provide me the security code for the radio for future use.

Thank you all once again for your input.

Now there's some good news for a change. :)

Glad to hear you got it sorted out - welcome to the non clunking 7 speed DSG club.

Take it you can now turn your daylight running lights off/on via the indicator stalk? Shame it's not in the Maxidot menu though.

Thank you for the welcome. It feels good to drive without any noise .My wife was bothered more than me. She said that people were looking at the car and her in a weird way due to the noise. The daylights can be activated in both ways. WIth the indicator stalk and via the maxidot menu. The option for the daylights appeared and it can be used now. I don't know if the reason for that is the fact that they also put aftermarket xenon lights, as part of their free gifts for the purchase of the car, together with alarm , parking sensors and a plastic cover on the trunk. I just wished that the right mirror could tilt down automatic when the reverse engages. i will look for related threads.

Guys: I live in France and I have the same issue. Clinking noise in low speed when accelerating and reducing speed. Also when going on small bumps or wholes. Dealer also tells me that this is the standard!!!! However I have escalated to VW France and they are investigating the case. No more news for the time being. Have you resolved the matter from your side.

Grismon,

Thanks for the hint. I will go back to my dealer and suggest the same fix. I will let you know. Unfortunately, I have not read your last input when I have sent my own query. Sorry to have bothered everyone.

I will keep you posted on progress.

Same is valid for me... At first day after getting car from dealer, I had heard that noise... problem for me is : there is aluminum cover under the car that starts from engine side to end... when you accelerate at first, engine or probably hoses a little bit lowered, and some hoses hit that aluminum cover... solution: When we make away that aluminum a little bit from hoses problem is solved...
