ASR button?

Featured Replies

I've had my vRS for seven weeks now and I've ploughed right through the owner's manual - however, I still can't work out what the ASR button is? My previous car was also VAG (Lupo GTi) but it didn't have this mysterious button.Sorry if this is a stupid question or has been asked before (I did try the search facility) but could someone put me out my misery?

anti slip regulation

AKA traction control on off switch, default is on.

Anti Slip Regulation

Basically a crap traction control, think it works by cutting the engine... pressing the button turns it off, and puts a warning light on the dash

Ah! Thanks for the swift responses chaps.

It works by applying the brakes on the wheel with the least grip, unless I'm getting mixed with the Electronic Diff (EDC). I have never understood the difference between the two. I think it uses the ABS sensors from all wheels to work it out.

I think ESP was an option on these? I may be wrong... i think ESP does as you state, but the standard ASR just cuts power to the wheels... will see if i can find the post i read that on

I actually quite like the Fabia ASR. It doesn't come in too harshly and does just enough to bring things back into line. When I want to have some fun though I do switch it off. Comparatively I drove a BMW on track with its system activated and it was like having my Grandma in charge of the throttle and brake whilst I simply steered and asked it permission to increase speed occasionally.

The Manual I have for my Fabia says that the ASR button makes sure all the wheels are spinning at the exact same speed, by turning it off you're allowing your wheels to run independently.

The only time I really find it useful is if a road is flooding on one side, it stops the car pulling off to the left if you get caught in the torrent (or it does for me anyway =D)

There are 2 systems here on the fabia with ASR.

ASR is, as it says, anti slip regulation and just stops the wheels from loosing traction by cutting engine power. This can be deactivated by pressing the button. The light will come on permanently on the dash to indicate it is turned off.

The other system is EDL Electronic Differential Lock. This system is active all the time and cannot be switched off (short of pulling fuses!). It acts as said above by braking the spinning wheel to transfer more power through the differential to the wheel that isn't spinning (and therefore has more grip).

I've tried it on and off and can't tell any difference. I wasn't aware however that when the light on the dash is on - the system is off :D

Out of interest (standing water has been mentioned) i find my Fab does't handle standing water very well at motorway speed - would this system be better turned off in this scenario?

What tyres are you running?

Electronic aids are great, but they don't make up for poor quality tyres.

Toyo Proxis 4 - tried to get T1R's but was short on time. They are no where near as good as T1R's but was't sure if they are the sole reason for poor puddle riding.

I'm a heavy motorway user and do up to 30k a year so longevity is a must - what comes recommended by you Skoda peeps?

Apologies to the OP for the thread hijack

Further apologies - have just found the tyre forum ;)

Handy button for the snow should traction control become more of a hindrance than a help

At the moment I'm running on the Pirellis that the car came with, ive started experimenting more with the ASR button and, I cant work out if its just psychological or not, it does feel like the cars using all the power at its disposal when im setting off with the AWE turned off. It feels like i get less lag.

ASR even, its hard posting from a phone using Autocorrect D:

Hi all. Just recently with the temperature dropping and being damp at the same time. My fabia vrs mk 1 has been a nightmare with asr on when pulling out of junctions. On one occasion it cut the power so much I had to dip the clutch and get the revs up again to get going.is this normal is it really that crap. Non of that with it turned off though. I have uniroyal rs3 on front.

Turn it off then, it's for old men.

Question is though is it generally that crap or do I have a problem with mine.

No, it's crap.
