alright peeps, just wondering if anybody on here is running a turbo timer and what make as im looking at getting one as well as a boost gauge. Any makes and info would be great cheersAndy-Boy

Turbo timers are technically illegal in the UK since you can't leave the engine running on the public highway with the car unattended. They're probably unnecessary anyway on a diesel.

Pretty sure for some reason or other, you can not physically do a turbo timer retrofit on a fabia vRS, or TDI for that matter. If you could it would be bloody awkward. :D

Get a Clifford alarm they can do a turbo timer function

Coming from having one of these contraptions on my other car, to put it simply, dont bother. All it is, is a box that keeps the engine running when the key is removed and runs down a timer until it switches the engine off, and for the cost of £60+ theres a cheaper and far safer way to turbo time.

This is the way I recomend to cool the turbo after a hard run and hasnt let me down on a high bhp evo, RX7 or the Fab :)

The way I do it is drive the last few miles of the journey off boost and then run the engine for 10-20 secs when you park up. The reason Id recomend this is leaving a turbo car just sat still over a period of time with the engine running isnt cooling the turbo/oil at all, as no air will be flowing through the radiator / oil cooler and all that will result is an increased oil temp which in effect is what you dont want for the turbo. I appreciate on Turbo Diesels its a bit harder to drive off boost completely is quite hard BUT if your not winding the boost in harshly during your cool down drive, it will still cool down better than at standstill.

Finally you have a spare £60 or so for fuel, beer, mods...............etc

Clearly. :OActually, that quip was meant as only part of the post, which was also meant to include this:turbo_article.jpgThe water cooling bit doesn't apply to the Fabia, but the bit about the oil does... FWIW, I just leave the engine running as long as it take me to turn off the BT for the phone, fit the steering lock and do whatever other bits and bobs need doing before I get out of the car - seems to have done the trick over the last 85k...

I can't be bothered sitting a minute or two in my car. Turbos covered under warranty so if it goes I'll get a new one afterall that's why I bought the warranty

No, I do it as well. I did 90,000 miles in my Astra diesel turbo and never had any problems. To be fair, I don't usually thrash the car at the end of the journey as it tends to annoy the neighbours.

It's just mechanical sympathy really, if nothing else - even if you are under warranty!

Doesn't necessarily have to mean you sat there waiting at the end of a journey. As said previously and in many other threads, just driving more gently for the last mile or so of your journey, with the turbo off-boost will suffice. And most of us can do that as we approach home or reach our destination I would have thought.
