Gear change advice

Featured Replies

I understand from comments on the forum that the Yeti has some sort of gear change advice indication:

1. Is this shown on the Maxi-dot display?

2. What is the indication and, does it advise both changing-up and change-down gear ?

3. Is the indication biased to economy or driveability?

Sorry for all the questions but it sounds like a good feature for the Yeti and I did not see this mentioned in the brochure.

The gear indicator is in the top right corner of the Maxidot display. It shows what gear you are in (nothing when in neutral) and if it thinks it should be in a different gear then that appears with an arrow indicating up or down as appropriate. Haven't a clue whether it's set for economy or driveability, I'm afraid - I suppose in theory you could argue they are the same thing, but I know what you mean!

Again I think that's a post WK45 update as I have not noticed this function on mine (WK42).

Us with pre build week 45 cars missed this feature :rofl: Can't say I'm sorry :D

Thanks Aerofurb for your excellent description.

If this feature is post WK45 then that will be why it was not on the literature I have.

Does anyone know if this is now a standard feature on all Yeti models or only the specific ones?

Do Skoda Dealers update the software as a matter of course during a service? The Yeti has a switch system on the gear change, this is used to disconnect the cruise control before a gear change.

Do you mean on the indicator stork? Because my Cruise Control turns off automaticly on the gear change, touching the brake pedel or if i cancel it on the indicator stalk.

Does anybody with this feature know if it is possible to turn it off? It sounds highly annoying.

Changing gear disconnects the Cruise Control. Therefore there must be a switch associated with the gear stick (or clutch pedal?)Would this switch also supply data on which gear is engaged so supplying the information for the Maxidot display. All that would be needed then is the updated software to display this information.

I'm sure a bit of black masking tape would sort it out...

Each to his own but it would be mildly irritating to me if I was being told when to up or down shift. To achieve maximum economy all that is needed it to know where the maximum torque out put lies and just stick in that band slot.

Cool, its just the way I read your first quote

Fear not, it isn't the least bit distracting or irritating! I didn't even notice it till half way home after collecting the car from Allams.

I thought about taking a picture of it 'in action' in my flats' car park but decided to play safe so you need a bit of imagination here - it's a white number where the red circle is in my picture. If it thinks you'd be better off in another gear, a white box with a black up/down arrow appears to the left of the number - hardly intrusive.

PS Chose the 'oil temp' page just to show The Plumber what else he is missing...!! ;)

A Yeti with a rear gun turret!! I like it! Should stop tailgating.

Wonderful stuff

It is such a pity that more of these wonderful flying machines were not saved, so many being scrapped.

Nice pictures, TP. Were you on the BBMF? I always regret not applying to join it - I spent my RAF time working on the true Queen of the Skies - the EE Canberra - only a few years younger than the Lancaster. And before anyone starts, I was with the Canberras for their 40th birthday!

Yes with the BBMF for just over 6 years, great fun working on 'real' aircraft. The pics were taken a couple of years back by a work colleague; took a few of them down there in the works minibus for a look round on a 'team building day'. :)
