SKODA YETI OFF ROAD VIDEO LINKS

I want to start a collection of Video Links dedicated to the Skoda Yeti Off Road. Most probably most people will never venture off road with their Yeti and some will do little more than drive on to a verge or visit a camp site. The Yeti does have quite some capability however, due in no small part to the Haldex 4th generation. For people like my self and Llanigraham who spend a lot of time properly off road, we need to know exactly how the Yeti behaves in this environment and copeswith specific problems because it could be a very costly mistake, if we were to buy a Yeti only to find it more deficient than other vehicles in its class. Also their may well be others like us who also need a vehicle to be competent in this environment and are looking at this class of vehicle for one reason or another. The Yeti has not been around for any length of time and material is short in the offering but hopefully over time film will become available showing how the Yeti performs at each situation, such as ruts, mud, ice, snow, articulation, traction control, hill climbing and descending and so on. Of course there are more dedicated and capable off road vehicles but they do not necessarily have some of the Yeti’s other virtues, such as agility, handling, performance and fuel economy.

It may be that the format will need to change as already I can see that just posting links will not identify whether one has seen that film or not and possibly a better description might be needed. Anyway it is a start. I will try to look back over our forum to see if any have been missed, so that they can all be put in one place.

Hi Graham,

Yes the first one is quite interesting. You may have seen some of the others and I may have missed some that I thought I had. Their is not very much around just yet. Thank you for the post.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to you also.

Thank you Sanqhar,

it was most interesting watching the traction control operating. I think that guy experienced in those conditions he drove with control and ability. Nice slow steady pace, showing his and the vehicles ability.

In Russian snow with wheelspin.

The driving starts about 4 minutes in.

Note the 17" wheels, 140 Hp Diesel with small brake discs and street tyres.

The devil is in the details - winter tyres would make a HUGE difference.

I know that others have had worse weather than we have but, this year, I have driven two days in the snow. That's 0.6% of my driving. I cannot justify the purchase of winter tyres on that basis.

Clearly location is all important. Highland and mountainous areas may require the necessity of winter tyres but, down by the coast, the need is limited.

The experts tell me to make the most of the snow, "global warming" will see off any snow in the UK!?! It was predicted that 2009 will be the last year I will see snow on Snowdon.

(Defn. of "expert":- X-the unknown quantity, spurt-a large drip)

If you live in the Sooth and only drive locally, I would agree with you. If your work takes you up North or onto the Continent, it is a diffeent story. I had both summer and winter wheels for the Octy and in four years and 120,000 km just about wore down the winter tyres and had just started on the second set of summer tyres. Just about the same tyre costs as only driving on summer tyres - except for the second set of wheels.

I do need to drive in Germany and Sweden, where winter tyres are mandatory in winter weather, so I have no choice. Here in Denmark, we get not much more snow than in England, but we do have frequent frosty and icy roads in winter, where the winter tyres are much safer - particularly if selected with a strong bias towards wet performance.

Come spring, the Yeti will get a set of Annapurna BLACK 17" wheels and probably Goodyear Optigrip 225/50 -R16V for the firmer handling AND the bias towards wet performance.

The definition of Expert sounds like the definition of a consultant: One who steals your watch and charges you for twlling you the time.

Well it is certainly getting to show to the Yet seems to cope well with snow.

I am seroiusly considering that what ever car I buy, a set of winter tyres are going to be another possiblity, considering that I have to get to work, and my commute is 48 miles each way, which has been "interesting" a few times last week.

Dutch video.

This one looks like it's done like a promo...

In this one

...the Italian journos get the wined and dined BUT.. at 1 minute 53 seconds in they are standing behind a 4x4 with a side hinged rear door???

Hi Tom,

Toyota Rav 4, think there was a Nissan Q........ there as well. Must have been on hand so the jurnos can see how far the Monster has taken the x-over idea forward while leaving it's predecessors in the weeds :)

Had a close look at the film, pretty sure the Yeti was running on Dunlop SP01; these are regularly used as factory fit on the 17" rims :S

Edit

The Monster in the film being a 1.8TSI

Yeti in the Snow, Russian film. Provided by snoopy73

Thanks for all these helpful video links - maybe the more observant can point out whether the clips are showing standard tyres and wheels for the vehicle under test.:)

Might some genius be able to embed the clips so we get an image of the clip content?

Embedded would be ideal, I do not have the IT skills unfortunately. What I am hoping for in the future would be for all the best films to be embedded and a relevant and accurate description of the film and what is going on, what particular electro mechanical assistance might be doing its stuff and so on. Then all the irrelevant comments like this one be removed and then only the most suitable films added as they come along. What I want it to be is just an off road guide for those people who need to know what the Yeti is capable of just in case that is important in their purchasing decision making. It might be some time indeed until it has the coverage of something like the Freelander and accepted acclaim.

Yes it would be lovely to see this done. I am not sure it is so much techy skills it could be more the permissions admin and members have for the board.- many sites give the embed instruction for their videos.

Saw a lovely "Eddie the Eagle" video on a Yeti at the top of a very high steep ramp - then lost it!!!

German video

Great find :) thx !

German video

Impressive!

Those hills! :o

That Is probably the best off-road video I have seen for the Yeti, and certainly shows the HillDescent system works well, even allowing for a little "artistic licence". Interesting to see the one rear wheel locking and releasing as it went down.

That is getting closer to the stuff I regularly drive on rallies or trials.
