Front wiper problem, advice required

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a problem with the front wipers on my MK1 RS, they do not switch off, when the stalk is set all the way down (for off) they keep going - I can also hear the relay at this point 'clicking'. The best I can do is have them on intermittent wipe on the longest setting. I was just going to purchase a new relay (I believe it is #377) but thought I'd check to see if others agreed or had any other suggestions?

Car has done 161k

Thanks in advance.

Try disconnecting the rear wiper motor and see if the front ones stop.

Most likely cause is water inside the rear wiper motor assembly leaking in from the rear screenwasher (poor design).

Hi thanks for your reply..

Will this impact the front wipers as I have described?

Where would I find the rear wiper motor? Cheers

Yes, it will affect the front wipers. If you do a search you will find lots of similar threads.

If you remove the large plastic trim inside the boot lid you will find the wiper motor. Just unplug it and if that is the problem the front wipers should return to normal.

Started doing it again while the rear wiper unplugged.... Further investigation needed at the weekend. Any suggestions?
