BEST OIL FOR FIXED SERVICING?

Featured Replies

I am intending to have my 58 1.9tdi Elegance Estate changed to fixed servicing intervals, when it receives its first service shortly (at 7,000m)

Despite the low mileage it has done in this first year, the car will soon average 20,000m per year on mainly motorway commuting.

My main concern is that the car last as long and as well as my other Skoda - a 02 plate Fabia 1.9tdi Estate, which is on 160,000 trouble free miles from new.

I am not at all technical, unfortunately, so this is possibly daft, but...... I'm sure I once heard/read that using the oil which is required for variable servicing on FIXED interval regime gives even more engine protection.

Does anyone have any thoughts or advice?

I would also like the first service to set the doors to lock automatically when the car gathers speed; are there any other similar adjustments available or desirable?

Many thanks to all who reply

Paul

All Octy 2 PD engines have to use VW 507.01 oil regardless of service regime. As long as the oil meets that standard then thats all that matters. I am currently using Castrol edge as my topup, but my previous topup was Halfords own 507.01. I would have bought another one but they did not have any when I needed it.

I use Millers XF-PD Diesel Oil in my 1.9tdi, not had an issue with it yet.

Very many thanks to both the above.

I wonder if anyone has any advice about my final question (on tweaks like setting automatic door locking)?

Just bought some Halfords VW/Audi 507.00 today to keep in the boot as a topup, so thanks for the recommendation

The only thing I'd like to get done is have the double click to unlock all doors disabled - ie, have all doors unlock on a single key press, not just the drivers door. I guess I'll probably get used to it, but atm I still find it annoying and can't imagine why it might be useful.

Hi Paul,

I did exactly the same, I'm in it for the long run with my 2008 Scout 2.0Tdi PD 140.

There are plenty of different opinions on this board but I believe that variable servicing has the sole purpose of attracting leasing companies with the increased service intervals and lower running costs and not the longevity of the car.

I do low mileage so reach 12 months before 10,000 miles. I don't think I could ever go more than a year without changing the oil and filter, longlife oil or not.

I had my local Skoda dealer swap my car to fixed servicing during its first service and I asked them to use the longlife variable service oil for a little extra cost.

They were good enough to also activate the 'auto locking above 5mph', 'dual rear foglights' and 'one press of the remote to open all doors' for free.

Sorry but I have to correct you.

Any PD engine without a DPF has to use VW506.1 or VW507.0 oil for variable servicing.

Any PD engine with a DPF has to use VW507.0 oil for fixed or variable servicing.

Any PD engine without a DPF can use VW507.0, VW506.1 or VW505.1 (Manual says VW507.1, which doesn't exist and I'm fairly certain VW505.0 is non PD, so it must mean VW505.1)

FWIW, I use 506.1 or 507.0 for all servicing as I don't have a DPF.

Been using Millers LongLife and Mobil1 ESP, but I might be able to get a good price on 60 Litres of Quantum Longlife III (VW506.1) so might well do that if it's an option.

The unlocking only the drivers door is useful.

Have had somebody try and get in the passenger seat when at a set of red lights and the locked passenger door foiled them.

Don't know if it's Facelift only, or VRs only, but on my Octy, I can set/unset the auto door locking via maxidot. I think I can change the one click for the drivers door/all door unlock too, but I prefer one click for the drivers and two for all doors so haven't looked to change that

according to my car manual,i do not have a d.p.f.,and i should use vw506.1,but my skoda garage ,where i bought the car, sold me vw507.1,when i queried this, all they would say is that skoda supply vw507.1 for all diesel engines.
