Anyone got a Roomster Scout?

Featured Replies

I'm just starting to looking for a slightly bigger car for my family. I'll be keeping my VRS as its been bought with cash. The Scout will be the 2nd car. Just used by my wife around town and if we all need to go on holiday or something.

Anyone got any pics of Scouts

Tips for things to watch for? I'm going for the 1.9 TDi 105bhp probably a brand new one as I can get one for £13,200 at the moment!!!

Good choice, you won't regret it as lots of x VRS owners will tell you

I have loads of photos however my normal hosting doesn't seem to be working so Ill post a link to everything I have which should show you aspect of the Scout even with leather ;)

I paid £12700 for mine just over 2 years ago and that was with a load of options...

If you were to compare with the VRS (IMHO)

Pros

Much more practical (By a factor of 10)

More comfortable over long journeys

Far superior handling

Far better put together especially inside

Far more ergonomic inside

Better standard ICE

Better overall reliability with better wear on main components (Tyres/brakes)

Far more exclusive

ESP as standard

Cons

More roadnoise

Not quite a nippy

No respect from other users

Interior can be looked on as slightly more...utillitarian

Marmite looks although when you get one you start to like it

Hope this helps

Agreed - good choice! I paid £13.700 for my 1.9TDI last September. Accessories included roof rails and panoramic sunroof (a must-have, IMHO). It is easily the best car I have ever owned.

When you order yours, remember to specify centre rear headrest if you want it (around £50) and remember to specify a spare wheel and tools instead of the standard-fit goo can (another £50).

When I buy my next new Skoda, I will have a "no stickers" clause written into the contract. Mine came with no fewer than six dealer stickers and add-ons, some of which were held in place with elephant glue. I had the d1ckens of a job removing the sticker from the rear window as it partially covered the heater element. HTH

Just had a browse through your pics!

Is that a white leather interior??? Whiteline ARB???

I'll be keeping my VRs as its the car I would be using, as i do now, to commute to work in. Scout will just be for my wife and for family times out!

Grey

Whiteline ARB???

Yep

It's got a few other bits too

I bought the Roomster Scout for my wife too. She didnt want a diesel, so I went for the 1.6 petrol.

Sufficient engine, but no more than that. Lacks torque. The diesel will be a much better engine for the car (although a little lumpier/noisier).

She loves the car to bits. Also having the same grey leather interior as Decron has. (was sold on ebay, and had to be fitted to the original seats)

As mentioned, go for the panoramic roof. This gives the car a lot extra.

Bought a Roomy Scout 1.9tdi in June 2008 for my (then) forthcoming newborn having seen the father in laws.

I managed to get a great deal on an ex-demonstrator with 3k miles on the clock, all the toys, Panoramic Roof, 17" Wheels, Maxidot and a cool/hot box thrown in.

It is an excellent vehicle for transporting the family and all the furniture for the little fellas bedroom.

I have an ARB waiting to be fitted, a PD160 intake, panel filter, some nice alternative wheels, oh and some 312's on the way B) .

has anyone got a link for the leather seats? and cost?

are they an alternative to seat covers for light seats which will mark easily?

IIRC they were kits that were sold on eBay by the nominated supplier to Skoda, DK Schweizer

One assumes that they were kits made up to be fitted as a factory spec and never made it the vehicle for whatever reason. I think there were limited sets on eBay.

HTH

Yeah, none about now :(

Cost you about £800 to get a set made...

Are they Audi wheels you've put on your Roomster?

Yup 17x7.5J Audi TT Comps in Satin Black B)

Ah TT wheels! I couldn't where they came from, they look similar to the wheels I had on a MKI A8 I used to have. Looks good! I like the dual Roomster photography.

I have had my Scout 1.6 16v for over two years and it never ceases to amaze me how well it goes round corners! If it had more power it would be excellent fun to drive (new 1.2 TSI should be excellent!)

Only negative points are

- The famous airbag lid rattle

- 1.6 engine a bit weak. It's not slow but you have to rev the nuts off it to get it to move then it becomes noisy.

Other that that the interior is attactive with nice seat fabrics and touchy feely leather bits, very practical and the distinctive looks were one of the reasons I bought the car

Wise move - but don't leave it too long.

This will be your last chance to buy a Roomie diesel without a DPF.

Great thread, thanks.

I really like the Scout although I'm having some trouble convincing the wife that it's the car for her - all these positives and pics should help, cheers. Would be looking to buy a used 1.9 as high a spec as I can get for her within the budget, when is the facelift due and is it worth waiting until then so as to get a better deal?

Also the DPF, I notice some mention get one without one although, if this isn't until the facelift it won't be a problem, please correct me if I'm wrong. Is the reason to avoid DPF because it clogs quickly as do so many or something else?

The older style PD engine dont come with the DPF - so stick with the 1.9 and you'll be fine. the new facelift engine is a 1.6 CDI with the DPF - dont bother - I can see that being a problem. I'll grab a low mileage 1-2 year old car for under £10K maybe start looking at selling my Polo 16v and 6 months or so - then go buy a Scout!

Blimey, a bit late now for me but I would snatch their hands off at that price, a real bargain!

Yes, folks you don't want to know about DPFs unless you regularly do a decent run at 60 mph or more. No manufacturer that I know of has got this sorted properly yet and they all give expensive trouble eventually. As a lot of my driving is poodling around locally at 40-50 mph, I went for the 1.6 Petrol. Yes, it could do with a bit more oomph but for me that is not the real issue; I bought it for reliability and the ability to carry loads of junk when I need to. Had a Meriva before but that had issues which I was not prepared to put up with any longer. Shame really because it also was a nice roomy vehicle but just too many inherent faults.

Gotta say that I have found out more about Skoda on BriSkoda than in the showroom. This thread was the one that convinced me to buy a Roomster Scout so a thank you for running a well managed informed site.

My new Scout (1.6 TDI) arrives about June time, With most factory options fitted. Exceptions = ESP plus, Arm rest, Glass roof..

Needed a vehicle that could be converted into a van but could be driven for 700 miles plus in a day on the continent in comfort and stress free (present vehicle Honda Accord Tourer Ex).

The Roomster has more room behind the drivers seat (fully back) than the Honda and many other vehicles, affording me a comfortable driving position and being able to use the rear right seat in comfort as well. (6'2" ).

Did not go for the 17" alloys because the ride comfort is reduced and as the roads in Norfolk are great for tractors low profile tyres will be ripped to shreds before they are worn out. The standard size can be increased to a 205/50 according to my local tyre supplier, replacement tyres will be of this size.

Has for price. I'm lucky because the dealer put the order through at the old model price which was £12,617.02. Hoping that I will get the new Safari paint work as well, getting a scout pre- registered (10 miles) for about £10.000 seems to be near impossible at present.and with the new 1.6 (105 bhp) diesel giving 68 mpg (light foot and following wind) its gotta be the one to have.

Thanks again all for the solid information and the great photos.

Just a note to say I have an excellent Scout 1.9TDI PD for sale. Please See the Cars For Sale section for more info.

Just a little too earlier for me! I'm going to try and find one in about 7 months! I have 2 kids just now - but we will be needing to get a 3rd baby seat in the back by December! Both the car I have just now have no centre 3 point seatbelt - Polo getting sold - fabia being my toy!

You won't fit three seats in a row into a Roomy or very few other cars for that matter
