330mm Compbrake rear upgrade from Awesome GTi.....

Featured Replies

Courtesy of Sarah @ Awesome GTi I had these land on my doorstep....

330mm vented/grooved discs with modified brackets to mount the OEM calliper further out. As I am upgrading my fronts to 360mm I thought the backs looked too small in comparison especially with the bigger wheels on, so these will do nicely.

A full fitment guide will be put up when they're done (wkend I reckon).

Hope you like the pics.

Very Nice B)

What upgrade have you gone for on the front?

Is it simply larger discs and the brakets to remount the calipers? Sounds interesting, how big a dent in the wallet?

AP Racing 360mm two piece vented/grooved discs and re-use my existing AP 6 pots.

Yeah, just bigger diameter discs and a stand off bracket. Click HERE for prices.

I did consider the twin calliper version that Compbrake do, but couldn't justify the prices! These are well tidy though!!

Here we go....

Removing the old disc was a piece of pi$$, whip the bolts out (2x 13mm bolts and 2x allan bolts not sure of their size..) holding the calliper and slider arm, and then removed the grub screw holding the disc to the hub.

First problem.... the disc was fouling the backing plate, so a simple fix was to prise it back using a couple of pieces of wood, crude but effective! Now the disc was on I turned my attention to the calliper bracket.

Due to the casting on the calliper (slider) I had to grind a few mm off to allow a flush fit (see pics 4 & 5), this took seconds. Then it was a simple case of mounting the bracket to the stub axle and then the slider to that.

It was a little tight but it went on nicely! Then it was just a case of attaching the calliper along with a new set of Ferodo pads. To allow the calliper and brake hose to reach I had to release the hand brake cable support strap and feed the cable down a couple of inches, then job done!

Hope you like the pictures! I will take some more once I've cleaned the car, it's plastered in road grime, salt and cow $hit at present.....

Now it's clean!!

I doubt whether these rears would've gone in on the standard 17" rim, but they fill my new 18" lovely!!

I'm well pleased!!!!!

Very Nice

Although i must admit i was expecting more of the disc surface to be used !! There is a good 1/3 rd of the disc that is not utilised & has no brake pad contact.

Shame you cannot get some longer pads, In time you will have one hell of a Rust ring ...... :(

I know it's annoying, but I can't find any pads that are deeper.... At least I will get the benefit of the discs being over 3" bigger in diameter over OEM stuff.

A lick of paint will combat my soon to be 'ginger ring'..... :giggle:

Just had an email off Compbrake, they have an alloy plate that covers the area not used on the disc, I will post more pics once this is fitted.

This should save me getting a glowing ginger ring...... :giggle:

Steve
