Upgraded sound system door speakers

Featured Replies

A minor but irritating niggle in such an excellent car.

After a month of ownership the drivers door speakers followed by the front passenger door (sound system upgrade) started to accompany certain bass frequencies with a pronounced "buzzy vibration".

mentioned it to dealer a few weeks ago and went through the procedure of arranging a time to present the car so a mechanic could hear the noise for himself. He confirmed that there was a noise and the car was booked in for a few days later. When that day came and the car was deposited with them I got a phone call from a different mechanic unable to hear the noise. I explained the symptoms and they (without actually taking the door card off) tell me that they have ordered replacement speakers, which in my opinion is a waste of time.

Has anyone else had this problem and has their dealer had some better idea as a solution?

I have this problem, too. Honestly I'm totally disappointed about the quality of the upgraded sound system, and plan to replace all the speakers to better quality ones using a sound specialyst.

I had the same problem and the same no sense reaction from dealer.

Then I decided to change all speakers, add subwoofer and use special mats inside doors.

Now system working as really premium sound system :)

Front:

JBL GTO 6583C

Rear:

JBL GTO 6507SC

Subwoofer :

Infinity Kappa One + JBL GTO 1014

The JBL GTO 6583C and JBL GTO 6507SC speakers are rated at 2 ohms. I'm assuming you're using the standard headunit to power them because the Infinity Kappa One is a mono amp for your sub. Is your head unit rated at 2ohms as well.

Nice boot build. I didn't thought a 10inch sub would be able to fit in the side of the boot.

those speakers are only budget speakers but that mono amp is around £250 (but some places selling up to £350), so probably around £450 - £500 max if bought individually.

I did it in professional car audio service 'Extreme Car Audio' in Wroclaw, PL.

They are a very, very professional, friendly for customers and did a very clean job.

You cannot see any scratch, any damage or grime on the leather.

The whole audio installation cost about 1700 EUR (except additional DVD for rear passengers).

It's not cheap. I know it but I expect clean, professional and well done job. And I got it :)

I think if I tried did it by myself the cost maybe less than 1000 EUR but the result may be not good ;)

Additional DVD cost from about 500 EUR to about 1100 EUR depending on hardware.

I choose middle range solution with Phonocar top model.

I live in Brussel and I not found a good car audio service near my place

with acceptable prices.

Had a good look at the pictures and I am very impressed with the quality of workmanship. A bargain in my opinion. I will have to suffer the poor set up in my car for at least another year until I can get around to "popping over" to Poland.

Many thanks again, G.K.
