Remote control for Webasto (Aux heater or parking heater)

Featured Replies

Hello Everybody,

I'm new to the forum and a proud owner of a Rosso Brunello Experience Yeti 170 CR with panoramic roof, etc. I ordered with Auxiliary Heater (Webasto) as is called here (in Romania) promised that is the same "story" as for Superb. All nice and well fitted from factory, but it seems they don't include a remote control for the Auxiliary Heater as they do for Superb.

I know that for british owners this is not interesting, but I see that the option is offered in Scandinavian countries as well and some of them are reading the forum - so maybe you can help.

OK, now my question is - did anyone received this remote control for Auxiliary Heater (or Parking Heater) ? The dealer said there is a possibility to order it as an accessory but the price of the remote will cost more than the heater!!!

Do you know if the remote is compatible with the one of Superb? What is the price in your country? Maybe is cheaper and I can order it from there...

Thanks,

Alec

P.S. How do I post pictures?

Hello Alec,

Welcome to the Yeti Forum. We are very interested in hearing about your Snow Monster. I have never heard of the "Rosso Brunello Experience " but the 170 CR yes, I hope to have that version , several others do now already. Please do not feel uncomfortable talking about things that we do not have in GB, we would like very much to listen to you account of any detail concerning your Yeti. The Webasto heater we do not have here unfortunately but as you say several other Scandinavian members do, I beleive that they will answer you shortly. Good luck with your answer.

Nice one Anthony 1.

Hi alecdan and welcome to the forum,

to post pictures you need to first put them on a photo sharing site such as flickr.com. You then use the insert image key which comes up on the tool bar at the top when your writing a post and paste in the URL for the particular photo you wish to post.

There is a flicker Group already set up that sanqhar and I use, free to join if you wish My link

Have you looked at the Webasto website and priced the remote unit yourself?? If I remember correctly, the heaters start at about e1500, I cannot see a remote control costing more!!!

I have been doing a bit of "research" on a remote for my Webasto, and the heater itself is the same partnumber as the one installed in the Superb. What the Yeti doesn't have is the remote, remote ecu/reciever box, antenna and the wiring harness. I will try to install it in my Yeti in the future when I can afford it.

I think one of theese will work with the Yeti's Webasto heater: Telestart Webasto T91 ebay

Hello Anthony and thanks for encouragements. It's first time I post anything on net, so I guess I needed. About color: I'm really sorry for you guys you donn't have the color in your offer. I was hesitating at first when I ordered it but now I love it - it looks really distict. I'm going to try to post some pictures too. "Experience" is the name of the trim in Romania that I guess it's coresponding to your "Elegance" in UK.

All the best to "Snow Monster" HAPPY owners!

Hi alecdan,

It has to be the first for everyone at sometime. We look forward to seeing the images of your car. You will find the Yeti section friendly. Some of the other members have a wealth of technical knowledge. Their are some Yeti technical pages also.

I guess you are used to much greater extremes of weather than we are and that snow is a common experience. GB has become used to warmer winters over the last 15-20years. perhaps you may have heard about the kind of fuss we make when we have snow here. Only a fraction perhaps of the snow that you are used to. I should imagine that the Webasto Heater is absolutely essential for you during the winter. How are you fiinding the experience of driving the Yeti on your winter roads?

OK, is my fault not being more specific. The car is fitted in factory with Aux. Heater as it was possible to get it as an optional. It cost me extra 722 euro. The dealer found me the remote for it for the cost of 857 euro. It looks identical with the one provided for Superb and does not include any transmitter from vehicle. This lead me to conclude that the transmitter is fitted already on Yeti.

Yes, I've been searching on the local Webasto dealers and they said they can fit their own transmitter with the remote for about 300-400 euro depending on the heater model. But I would prefer to keep the original transmitter (if fitted) with no extra hassle. They say they cannot "work" with the transmitter build in by Skoda.

The last option looks to be the cheapest, but still I don't understand why Skoda does not provide a remote for Yeti as they do for Skoda Superb (for free), considering the price of the optional to be fitted is about the same! Or to exsist as an accessory at a reasonable price! It is only an on/off remote control that I'm looking for.

If needed the parking heater can be programmed from the Maxi Dot - I checked that already and it worked. Therefore no sophisticated remote needed.

emoticon-0106-crying.gif

But saying that, I have to admit this is the only (big) issue that bothers me on my Yeti.

That's really useful! Thanks.

On the Webasto Label it states the model: Thermo Top V. Yours is the same?

So, you say there's no transmitter fitted by Skoda with the heater on Yeti... It seems I have to go for the after sells fit option... I was hoping just to buy the remote (as the one for Superb), and just synchronize with the heater and .. end of story!

I'm now away out of my country and I cannot check with my local Webasto dealers, but I'll pay them a visit when I'll be back...

I had another ideea: to make it that every time I would hit the unlock button of the car keys, the Aux Heater to be activated too (as both happening in the same time). So when I want to start the heater only I would unlock the doors, the heater would start, then I just lock back the doors and the heater would still work for maximum time programmed (default is 30min).

I asked if this is possible to be done at the Skoda Dealer's Service but the reply was no... :dull:

Hi alecdan,

see you have loaded your photos onto the Yeti Group, looks very nice.

The correct URL required is found by selecting the 'all sizes' key above your photo. This opens a new window where you can obviously select the image size required. Once you have settled on the image size you like you will see below it a section:

To link to this photo on other websites you can either:

from here copy the URL in option 2, then paste into the insert image box created on selecting the Insert image key from the tool bar.

Hope that helps, if you need more info let me know.

Welcome, alecdan, to the SMOC - another international member! Nice colour, as you say distinct and yet another one that suits the Yeti. emoticon-0144-nod.gif

Hi Anthony,

I have driven it about 950km (590miles) on both dry tarmac and snow. But all of these with the summer tires that come with.

My old car is a Golf V TDI PD 105HP and therefore all my experience with yeti will be in comparison with the Golf. First of all - the boot space is smaller!!! That's because there is no option in Romania to order a Yeti without spare tire! I think I'll but in the future a repairing kit and leave the spare home, it will increase the boot space by at least 100 liters.

4298010835_95130c39b1.jpg

On dry tarmac it feels more powerful and you really feel the grip, but in the same time it feels bigger and I have the tendency to take the corners slower. I can't say I'm used to it, especially because of the higher driving position, but I like it. I was still cautious because the engine was not run in, but on the engine side the power is delivering like a lot smoother than in Golf without filling the need to push on the pedal (no real "punch in the back" though). I guess if is to make it over 3000rpm it would punch harder, but that's for (near) future. From about 120km/hr you hear the wind too, but nothing to be so disturbing. The great thing is that you can drive it sporty (even with below 3000rpm) but in the same time economical. I noticed that after 900km run the consumption decreased by roughly 1liter/100km. (from 8.7-9 l/100km to 7.8 l/100km urban drive). I expect the consumption drop even more after 1500km run.

In the beginning the seats were not felt as comfy as in Golf because of the lateral support and that I didn't found the proper settings (steerwheel/chair) for me. But after a while I played more with the setting and I'm fine. All these because I want a position so I can see all of the dials in one view and for some reason it was easier on Golf. The one option of seeing digital the speed and the gear it's a plus. The hold hill contol works very fine, we need it in my city as we have a lot of hills. The downhill descent control works great as well, but you really need it on muddy/slippery roads with high slope. I have 2 spots like these in my city and I use those routes only for the fun of it!

On snow/wet roads I can't really say that I have an opinion made, even if I rushed in to test it. I have no winter tires - you can clearly see the problem. As traction is ok if you set off road button. It doesn't let you accelerate sharp and felt one or twice the traction control working. But because of the wideness of the tires, it happened that I slide laterally few times at a low speed. I even succeed to scratch it on a country road! Actually I parked it lateral to a tractor with a trail in the woods and because the slope was towards the tractor, as soon as I braked stopping I slide into it! Causing few scratches and a small bent on the front left between hood and bumper... yeah, stupid...

So on winter - use winter tires NOT like me...:S

4298261376_7a34775b70.jpg

But the best two things I like is the panoramic sunroof and the lateral parking. The lateral parking is not a necessity - you can easily live without it, but what a show! My son likes it a lot and laughs every time I use it - at least for this it was well worth the money! With the panoramic sunroof - I leave "the curtain" open all the time - gives a feeling of liberty, it's great! We've been in the woods in the mountains and we could take pictures uphill while driving! - great! I read someone was afraid of noises or seal problems - we have none of these up to now!

As a conclusion it's an all-roader, all-arounder for me and if you do not plan heavy off road it delivers! I am happy with it, just waiting to go back home and discover something new with it.

Hi Alecdan!

Yes I have the same Webasto heater in my car. The heater used in all VAG cars since the PQ35 platform was introduced is called Thermo Top V. The remote in the ebay link is exactly the same as the one delivered with Superb II cars minus the Skoda badge.

I have checked the wiring diagrams on our Yeti and there is sadly no reciever box/ remote ECU for the webasto, so we will have to buy the full Webasto kit (like the one in the link) to make it work. Innstalling it is fairly straightforward. ECU under dash, power and earth connections to this box, one wire from the ECU to the heater, and an antenna that usually is fitted to the inside of the front bumper. You also have to re code the webasto to let it know that it now can be controlled by remote.

:)

alecdan,

That is super and comprehensive report. Thank you for the attention to detail. I am sorry that you have injured your Snow Monster. Let s hope that your Yeti has good recuperative powers. We have had discussions about winter tyres on the yeti forum and also else where in the general and other model specific forums throughout Briskoda.net. Their is a lot of divided thoughts on the matter. Personally, I would like to see the mandatory adoption of them in GB during the winter months on safety grounds. Our country just comes to a stop with only few snow drops. Do you feel that snow tyres should also be narrow as well as having special compounds and tread design?

You mention positioning and viability of dials. Is this a problem for you? Some members report difficulties stating that the calibrations are difficult to differentiate between and that the wheel gets in the way, while others are happy with the arrangement.

I can see the attraction with the sun roof if it can be used for sight seeing, trees and mountains.

Overall it looks as though it will be an immensely enjoyable car for yo and your son, me too hopefully & my wife and daughter!

Addition!

I have only just seen your images f your Yeti in the snow and in the City. The colour does look unusual. It looks a little like dark purple or mauve but the light from the snow might be deceiving.

For those of a certain age who need it simpler !!!

Once on Flickr, open your photo and then click on "ALL SIZES" which is in the list of options along the top edge of the photo. This brings up the photo with a list of sizes:

Available sizes: Square (75 x 75) Thumbnail (100 x 56) Small (240 x 135) Medium (500 x 281) Large (1024 x 576)

Click on the size you want (mostly I use medium) and then copy the photos URL from the second of the two items below the picture e.g.

"2. Grab the photo's URL:"

Post this URL to the drop down window you get when you click on the "Insert Image" Icon in the list above the post box (i.e. the box I am typing this in now):

OK, all clear! Thanks again. I think I'll be fitting it when I'll be back home. Still about one week to go...:)

Glad you have got the photos sorted :)

Your Monster looks great by the way, unfortunately the Rosso paint finish is another option SUK have deprived customers over here from having on the Yeti :(

Strangely though we can opt for it on the rest of the model range.

You would think it would be easy these days to allow all options for all markets unless the RHD/LHD position of components precluded it - that way everyone would be happy and manufacturers would probably be able to sell more options - if not cars.

Alecdan - love the reflections of the trees on your Yeti in the photo with the pretend fox in it! emoticon-0144-nod.gif

See - another member of the panoramic sunroof appreciation society - I like mine for aircraft spotting.... emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

umm lots of military aircraft flying over head here, and below come to think of it, tough the ones that go below our house are helicopters so far. We have lots of aerial displays, training fights, most of the year. Military ranges are not very far away and so we have Transporters with paratroops, numerous different types of fighters. Helicopters large and small. It has been a little while since the military choppers passed the house, they used to go past quite frequently but the fighters shake the house regularly, they often line up on us. Some throttle back as they go overhead while others give us the full blast.

Anthony,

1. About the winter tires: in Romania is not compulsory everywhere either, maybe because of the cost of living... but it should be compulsory. It is compulsory on some of the roads but there are always visible signs set. In the area that I live we have an average of -5 to -10 deg Celsius winter, occasionally 2-3 nights with -20. In Romania is a big fuss too about the snow when it comes first time, almost every year the authorities are caught on "the wrong foot" but the madness is slowing down after the first 2-3 days when actually the de-snower trucks and tractors are cleaning the roads (excuse my english but I don't know the proper words). Police has a big problem every time in convincing the necessity of proper equipped vehicles. Many drivers use snow chains, but these damage the steering and de-calibrate the axles in time.

If you have like 2-3 days snow a year with temperatures above 4 Celsius I don't think is a requirement for winter tires.

As far as I know there are different types of winter tires from the ones that have the same shape as the summer ones but are softer and have good grip at lower temperature (mostly used) to those that have pins included in the tire for all time in the snow.

About how wide: the thinner the better I think! From our experience I can say that the small cars (with thinner tires) are always getting better on our snowy roads than even some 4x4's with wide tires. As a remark even Skoda advice for Yeti the 16 inches wheels for winter to be able to fit snow chains... and I think there are thinner too (by looking at my spare tire).

I searched some snow tires for my 17" on Yeti and there are lot more expensive than for my Golf V. No wonder people prefer using snow chains, but another problem with the chains is that you have to "walk" really slow - Max 40km/hr.

Therefore the choose of the winter tire is very much depending of how long, how fast and on which kind of roads you're driving. On the other hand the "all seasons" tires are tho worse option in my opinion. Do o lot of noise when on dry roads and a bad job when on snow/ice. There are loads of options for winter tires but even the cheapest ones do a better job than the "all seasons".

2. About the dials - yes, that's right - they might look more "fancy" reminding of old racing cars, but on my Golf V "the resolution" is better. In fact the design is similar to the new Golf VI. But at the end of the day is not something so bad that you cannot use to. I have the "cruise control" fitted as well and together with the digital speedometer in the Maxidot I don't really need to pay a such close attention to the analog speedometer: I just set the max legal speed if needed without hassle. And the engine revs are indicative anyway - it's not difficult to see you're below 2000 or 3000rpm etc. there's a gear indicator in the Maxi Dot as well so no problem in reading.

As I said at the beginning I didn't found the comfortably set up - mainly because the wheel was in the way when try to fit to be comfortable with my hand resting on the armrest. But by lowering the chair a bit I found the optimum. There are all the adjustments possible as with any other (VAG) car. The only thing is to find the best setting for you and then is OK.

Before deciding to buy Yeti I made a lot of research and comparisons with all car available! There were few more famous cars that I had to eliminate from selection... At the end I'm definitely sure this is the best car you can get for these money.

I'm sure you and you family will enjoy it as at least as much as I do!
