Front bulb replacement

Featured Replies

I have a Octavia L&K 04 reg Est and one of my front bulbs has failed I tried searching this forum but have not seen how to get the front headlight out to be able to replace the bulb.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks.

That's still the MK1 isn't it? I'm not sure if those came with Xenons, so this is for the normal lights.

When you look at the back of the headlight there's a plastic cover over it. On the side nearest the radiator you'll see a long metal spring clip that you can flip out, allowing you to swivel the cover away from the radiator and then pop it off. The main bulb is in the centre, the sidelight below it; to remove the main bulb you remove the connector from the back, unclip the spring holding the bulb in in and just lift the whole thing out. The sidelight holders require a small twist to one side before they'll pop out. Make sure you don't touch the glass of the replacement bulbs! :)

This is an Octavia 1, right? (bonnet same width from end to end)

If so, then you don't need to remove the headlights to change the bulbs (although it's the easiest way to get at the front indicators). Just reach down between the battery or screenwash tank (depending on which side you're working on) and the bonnet slam panel, open the square door, unplug the 3-way connector, loosen the spring and withdraw the bulb.

Replacement is the reverse of removal, taking care not to touch the bulb glass.

There's more than enough once you've got the rear cover off, you'll be fine :)

I also have Octy Mk1 L&K est. It has HID Xenon type D2S 35W 6000k, i'm uncertain if this was standard fit or optional (gut fealing is standard fit) and i have read on this forum somewhere that you need to remove the front bumper 10x screws then remove the headlights to replace the lamps.

Maybe worth a call to main stealers though as i know Vauxhall guarantee their Xenons for the life of the car as they should last a minimum of 3000 hours!

good luck ;)
