Help Starting Issues Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have owned my 06 Skoda Fabia VRS since new but recently i have been having starting issues when i turn the ignition key all the lights come on as normal but it wont turn over or any thing if i bump start it she works fine for a while but then she will start for a bit and then will suddenly stop again. She has been to the garage twice now the first time they said it was the Glow plugs and replaced them and the second time they said it was the ignition barrel that they replaced and cleaned the starter motor terminals. It had been working fine for a month but now appears to have started again. Any advise would help

Thanks

Paul

Change garage! I'm not sure we've got much to go on, other than a vague suspicion of an immobiliser issue, and the present garage seem to be doing "change a bit and hope the fault goes away" diagnostics with your wallet!

One thing you could try; next time it fails to proceed, see if you can start it with the other ignition key. If you can, change the battery in the one you normally use.

Tried the other key and it still didn't start. I dont think it is a immobiliser is the issues as it starts if i bump start her

Cheers

Does the starter spin at the correct sounding speed?

Nothing works at all not even the starter you just turn the key and silance like the immobiliser has kicked in but the sign on the dash showing the engine does stay on i can't remember if this is ment to go off?

It might be worth investigating the super heavy fuses on top of the battery pack if it's like the Octy, and the "fusable links". Oh and the starter feed and engine earth braids.

Starter solenoid wiring about to break at the motor end of the loom.

Would that require a new Starter motor?

No, the wiring just needs to be repaired. VAG skimp on wiring, resulting in too much strain on the connectors. Usual fix is to simply add a short length of wire into the wiring. If you trace the thinner wire to the starter motor and wiggle it at the motor end, it will most likely just fall apart.
