Hums when I switch off

Featured Replies

I've done a search but couldn't find anything relating to this.

Every time I turn the engine off ( Fabia vRS) I get a fairly loud buzzing/humming noise.

I can even feel the vibration under my feet now.

It's obviously not going to go away and fear something is eventually going to fail.

Sounds like an electrical fuel pump firing up, but surely not when shutting the engine down?

Anyone else had or got this?

I thought they all did it? The ones I have had did....

Well I've owned a Fabia for nearly five years now, but have only noticed this noise within the last 6 months tbh, unless it's just my hearing becoming more acute as I get older p'raps? :S

Mine has been doing this for the last 4 months... thought it may be something to do with the colder weather?

Car is just over 3 years old

Anti shudder valve operating, it's normal. Early ones are built into the EGR valve and vacuum operated. Later ones on BLT engine are electrical and make a clicking sound. Vacuum control modules sometimes fail, try listening to the black box behind the coolant expansion tank when you switch off. If it's buzzing loudly, it may be about to fail.

my black box buzz's for about 10 secs after engine turned off

Mine does the same. done it since i have had it, about 2 years now.

They are a sealed unit and cost about £100??

Someone correct me if im wrong

All the 1.9 diesels hum for a few seconds after shutting down. It is the fuel pump and power steering pump shutting themselves down thats all. You may also hear a click when shutting down which is a valve fitted to part of the vac system. On mine the pipe fell off this valve and it used to shut down very violently. A bit of glue from a glue gun re-secured it and it shuts down smoothly again.

I had mine replaced by Ali @ unit 18. He said this is not normal and should not be buzzing at all. I have had the new box for about a year now with no buzzing at all. When Ali plugged the car into the diagnostics he found fault codes. He was able to reproduce the buzzing through the computer.

Your right the part is approx £100 and fitting will be pence.

Mine was getting gradually worse,

Dont know if that helps thing!!!

Mines been doing it alot recently maybe due to colder weather? But anyway, i work for a VW dealer so i got one of the lads to plug the old girl into the diagnostics and came back with no faults but, he did say it was that black vacuum box making the noise.

  • 1 year later...
