Another Felicia Central Locking Question

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just picked up my new (to me) 2000 Skoda Felicia 1.6 GLXI, I'm just wondering if the car has child locks, as my central locking seems not to work and I want to check how much isn't working :p

Yes there should be a little catch you can flip left to right on the end of the door.

I think all cars with rear passenger doors have had to have child locks since the mid-1960s.

Thanks,

From what I can tell the central locking isn't working (although it was when I viewed the car).

I'm guessing it's a problem with one or more of the solenoids, I'm guessing checking this shouldn't be too hard of a job.

It also seems that the car is fitted with a Selca alarm / remote central locking unit, the unit locks / unlocks the driver's door but not the rest (just as the key does). I'm assuming that if I fix the mechanical fault with the locking then the remote will work too, fingers crossed...

What happens if you use the key in the passenger side?

It unlocks the passenger side door, but nothing else, I'm starting to suspect it's a fuse that's gone.

Unfortunately the car came without the handbook and I don't have the workshop manual, any ideas which fuse I should be checking?

Of course it could be the relay, but changing a fuse would be alot less hassle.

Fuse number 16 (numbered left to right) in the fusebox is the fuse for factory installed central locking, although it sounds like yours might be after market? It should be a 15A fuse. Fusebox is under the dash passenger side, a knob unscrews and it flips down.

Yep, the fuse is blown, hopefully this isn't indicative of something more worrying.

It could theoretically be caused by overloading the motors, e.g. if the locks froze up. Put a new fuse in and hope for the best :)

Right!

Well I've changed the fuse and now the central locking works... kind of.

Using the key in the driver's door locks everything now, but it only unlocks the driver's door.

Using it in the passenger door locks and unlocks everything.

Using the aftermarket remote central locking locks and unlocks everything.

So really, all I need to do now is work out why the driver's door lock only unlocks itself and not the rest of the car... hmmm.

I imagine it will be the motor itself (which contains the switch that sends the signal to unlock everything else) or there is a break in the wire somewhere between the motor and central locking control unit. As the remote works it I'd be inclined to leave it myself.

Finding a break in a wire could take hours with a continuity tester.

Well, now the central locking doesn't approve of the rear driver's side door lock, it attempts to move, but just doesn't seem to have enough push, I'm wondering if this overloaded the motor in the first place and blew the fuse...

Dodgy central locking motor then by the sounds.

Breakers yard time.

I would offer you one from Nelly but not sure what's happening with her yet...

  • 2 weeks later...

My locks are odd like yours, central locking kinda works 90% of the time but plays up the rest, Had a weird incident over the winter, had they keys in the ignition with engine running to warm up, closed all the doors to scrape the windows of ice then the ****ing central locking froze with the cold! locked the car up with the keys inside! good job i had a spare set! happened a few times as well after that too (careful of the cold weather)

I think leaving the window wound down is a good idea  (if that's not frozen shut)
