I'm still getting round to working out what is good and bad about the 56 reg Audiente Octy Estate I've had for a couple of months.

I do a lot of sitting outside places waiting for shall we say mature ladies to return to the car. If I switch the radio on, I'm amazed that I have to switch the sidelights on to get the buttons and display to light up. Is this normal? All other car radios even back to the days of positive earth have always lit up when switched on.

When I cycle through the menus, I see that Bluetooth and aux input appear as options. Does this mean they actually exist? I haven't seen any aux connector anywhere, and don't know what to expect any bluetooth device to do. My phone bluetooths to my laptop. Does this mean it should do something with the radio?

I think I'm getting too old for all this.

If you have the centre armrest you will find an aux socket under the arm in the jumbo box, bluetooth maybe mentioned but won't be there, it wasn't an option back then, think it's because in some other countries it was so the menu is there. And yes you do have to turn the lights on to get it to light up.

But from memory there is an option within the menu to alter how the unit lights up as well when switched on - it can be either just the volume button or lots of buttons?

Press MODE button to get to special functions
Select the arrow at bottom right of screen.
One of the options is now illumination. You can change this from option 1 to option 2 -- can't help as to what these functions actually do, but they do alter the way the backlight works. Have a play to see which option is best for you

Well, here I can press MENU and find ILLUM, which I can switch from 1 to 2. But I can't see any difference between the two, and the radio still doesn't light up when switched on with the lights off.

I sat outside M&S tonight while the ladies went in to buy tea and talk and looked through the radio manual. It doesn't mention the ILLUM option at all.

OK, I'm coming to grips with my Octavia II... if I don't have a centre armrest, do I have an AUX input socket?

Nope! Though you can easily install one in the Stream MP3. (but not in the standard Stream)
