air pump

Can the secodary air pump sound like a leaking exaust or turbo whistle when extremely cold as I only have the problem when the car has been outside in cold conditions and not in the garage on initial startup, the whistle tend to go after around 2 mins which makes me think it could be the pump

I think mine is on its way out as well, getting the 16795 code, and it's bringing on the engline light

Is there anything worth checking before attacking the pump??

Anything else that might bring up this code? It's not done bad I suppose, 88k and 8 years on.......

Steve

That's the code I was getting. It seems this is a common issue - the rivets in the air pump fail causing the two plastic halves to split apart and leak.

You can see here mine had lost at least two of the rivets:

One fix is to remove the pump, drill out the remaining rivets and replace them with small nuts and bolts.

This shows how I removed mine: http://www.pimpmyskoda.co.uk/V2Images/ModsEngine/AirSystemRemoval.htm

A new pump over here was something like $900 - over 300 quid!

There was one in the for sale section on Brisky recently for about 30 quid.

There's also one or two Octys being broken for parts so you might get a good one from them.

Thanks for the in-depth report on all that Rob, but I was honestly just looking for a quick "how to" to check it

Not a "how to" on taking half my car apart.........

Cheers
