1.8t 20v running problem

Featured Replies

Hi,

i had a problem with my 1.8t a couple of years back which i have never gotten to the bottom of but have recently learnt to ignore. But its getting to that stage again where it is starting to bug me again.

The car is a 2001 Octavia L&K 1.8t 20v 150bhp version.

Basically day to day the car runs fine but if i drive it hard in any gear it then begins to play up. When i sit at lights the idle is very rough and i can feel the car shuddering, at low revs when pulling away the car drives fine but as i try to gain speed it seems to hessitate and it feels as though i haven't got the full power of the engine. The car will then return to normal after i leave it overnight.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions or questions please let me know, i'd love to get this sorted so i can enjoy driving the car again .

.

Many thanks,

Shaun.

It could be your o2 sensor in the cat, my old Impreza had this problem and it would bog down and then pull like a train at certain RPM's. Is your engine light on?

HI,

i have no lights appearing on the dash, and when i scan with vagcom all i get is a 17705 code which i've always had since i've owned the car.

A friend of mine recently had an issue with his car going into limp mode with a rough idle after driving it pretty hard and it turned out to be a snapped coilpack so i did wonder if it could be a simular coilpack/spark plug problem.

Where abouts can i find the o2 sensor?

cheers,

Shaun.

Water temp sensor, MAF, front lamda, etc. It could be loads of things.

True. My MAF didn't give a fault code when it failed.

Throttle body may need a clean

HTH

Agree there, get the throttle body cleaned up.

Do a search on 17705 and you'll open a whole can of worms!!

Hi,

thanks for all the fast replies.

I had a new MAF a while back as my eml was constantly on, it cured that issue.

cheers, I'll give it a clean up over the next few day and report back.

Yeah tell me about it, when i first got the car i had the 17705 code and spent many hours looking into it, i've just learnt to live with it now as everything i seemed to do had no effect.

Cheers,

Shaun.
