Tunnel/auto ligths

Featured Replies

My Vrs has been on order for a month now and I am just starting to get a bit excited not too much mind as it is still along way off. Is there a difference between auto lights and tunnel lights or is tunnel lights what Skoda call their auto lights?

They're one & the same thing.

They come on when the light reaches a pre determined level or when the speed of the car is >85mph.

I have them. Just leave them on that setting all the time. Turning switches to on is SO 20th century.

Thanks, are they linked to the wipers like my old Fiat. If the wipers go on for along time the ligths come on.

I would do this but they seem to come on a little easily. I'd like it if they turned on side lights in slightly gloomy weather and the headlights only when it was getting dark or the wipers were on a fast setting. With the combination of tunnel lights and Xenons I'm forever getting oncoming traffic flashing me on gloomy days and people I'm following getting very confused when I appear to flash them whenever going under a bridge.

So, is it possible to use VAGCOM to adjust the sensitivity of the tunnel lights, or even better get it to control side lights?

I don't have the manual in front of me but I know there are certain conditions when the lights will turn on even if not dark eg over a certain (Illegal) speed, when the wipers have been on for a pre-determined time, etc. The lights will turn off again (if not too dark) when the speed has dropped, the wipers stopped, etc.

How do they do in Foggy conditions? A mate of mine had Auto lights on his Honda Accord and he said they didn't cope very well with Foggy conditions, usually it would end up with someone flashing him to remind him to turn his lights on (never mind Fog lights!).

I agree with that. They seem very quick to turn on and slow to turn off. Mine regularly come on in clear bright conditions in the morning when I'm travelling west (back to the sun) and don't seem to want to turn off even though there is not a cloud in the sky and most people are driving wearing sunglasses. Speed is not a factor max speed on my commute is 50mph and there are plenty of traffic lights where the vehicle comes to a complete stop.

Does anybody know where the actual light sensor is located? I assume that it's behind the rear vision mirror at the top of the windscreen like the wiper sensor but it would be good to know for sure.

Fog is the one thing that defeats them, as it's usually bright so they won't switch on. But you need to put your fogs on, so you'd have to move the switch anyway. They come on if the wipers have been on for 5 secs, non-intermittent. This is a good idea as I always used to turn them on if it was raining as I was told it was good driving practice. Alway amazes me when I see people in terrible conditions with no lights on. Auto lights for all!

The sensor is behind the mirror in the same place as the auto wiper sensor.

Are they more trouble than their worth? To late for me now.

No. They are brilliant.

That works for me then.

Ditto, best thing since sliced bread..........!

I will agree they do come on when its still fairly light but generally I find the system very useful. As said about to activate for fogs like you need to switch off from auto to the sidelights or headlights and then pull out. I didn't know that they came on at speed until the over day and to be fair very useful as it seemed to clear the outside lane the other day lol

I wanted them so much that I retro fitted them myself, £5 for switch of fleabay (bargain) and £2.67 for repair wires from dealer

Is it really THAT difficult to reach forward and turn the switch on ?

Do you have a "how to" for this please?

If it's anything like the Fiat that I once had, that's more likely to be an electrical fault....

Think I've seen an auto lights retrofit how-to post somewhere on here already...quite fancy having a go on my Elegance as it already has the sensor for the coming home lights.
