Cigarette sockets & Electrics for phone

Featured Replies

is there an electric socket in the boot, ive seen pictures of cool boxs plugged into the boot, does the FL Octavia Elegance have more then one plug in point.

also how can you hardwire in a phonce charger, rather than using it in the cigarette lighter

In the Australian spec cars there is a socket in the boot of the wagons but not the hatchbacks. Not sure about UK spec cars.

I just run a cable from the socket in the centre console through to the boot if I want to plug a cool box in there.

Might be an extra 12v socket in the boot of an elegance and also another cigarette lighter on the centre consul for the rear seat passengers. the only way to know is to look

In order to hard wire a SatNav or 'phone I would suggest adding another circuit to the fuse box

There is a guide here and a better one here

Whilst you are there take another wire to the boot for an extra 12v socket. Maplins have a couple of aftermarket ones you could use

Pre FL Elegance estate has a 12V socket in the boot (RH side adjacent to wheel arch) which, like the one in the front, is permanently powered. None in rear passenger space though.

Assume FL will be similar but I reserve the right to be wrong...

Yes, the Facelift Estate has the 12V socket in the boot too

what about the non estate

Mine is done a little more simply - mainly because it is a company car and I am not allowed to do any hard wiring in it so everything is easily removable.

Take a fuse and cut in half, solder a wire on the top end and connect this to an in line fuse carrier which feeds a wire to a 12 v socket. Insulate with tape/shrink wrap. Ground connected to screw near fuse box.

Fuse carrier sits in fuse box with the half fuse forming a plug into one of the vacant switched live fuse locations. Socket sits behind trim under steering wheel with tomtom cable plugged in to it.

Is swiched live as I used to have a PDA for sat nav and did not want the cradle powered all the time. Now use a TomTom 720 so less necesssary but safer.

Leaves the socket between the seats free for phone charging.

The hatch doesn't have a 12v socket in the boot (one thing I do miss after 5 years of Estate cars that did...)

You don't need to cut a fuse in half - just use a conventional crimp spade terminal like this:
