recommend a web host

Featured Replies

Right, I've decided I need to update and improve my togging website, and will need a simple web hosting package with the ability to host wordpress (so need PHP, MySQL, etc)

I guess the usual "you get what you pay for" applies here. I did give fasthosts a go a month or two back, and whilst it was for something different, it didn't suit the needs, and so don't really want to use them.

Other "cheapies" are 123reg (my old man uses them and they seem ok), uk2.net, evohosting... But are they just cheap and nasty and massively oversubscribed?

I don't need much bandwidth, but I do need it to be fast. Cannot afford for customers to wait for pages to load.

Suggestions?

I did look at linodes where brisky is hosted, and it's awesome. Now of only there was a hosting only version of that a bit cheaper rather than a full VPS, I'd be happy :D

media temple grid service.

Have used them for the past 4 years, never had a single problem and the support staff are generally very helpful!

MediaTemple seems a bit expensive for what it is?

No issues with using US-based hosts? Speeds still OK in blighty (99% of my traffic will be in/from the UK)?

After some more searching, come across tsohost and they look very good and incredibly cheap. A simple no-nonsense approach with testimonials I can believe. Looks like they're reasonably small, but very efficient :)

i use krystal.co.uk , they claim not to oversell their boxes.....

If you just want to run wordpress:

It's to run wordpress, but want it on a custom domain and there'll be several subdomains and other bits and pieces, so it's easier just to have a hosted service and install wordpress onto it :)

try www.sitehq.co.uk

Forgot to say, all sorted now. Went with tsohost as they have an incredible discount offer I found with some googling.

cpanel rocks, and it's nerdy yet simple enough I can manage it :D

My new website's up and running now
