Cruise Control

Wondering if I am pressing the right buttons??? :S

Lessons on how to set it please... :)

and any of your comments / thoughts on it...

cruise control a good system, useful not only on motorways but also for keeping pc plod off your back going through 30 mph limits! I presume it is just like on my Octavia, On the indicator stalk there is a rotary switch, move this to the left to arm the system then when you have reached your required speed press the top of the rocker switch on the end of the indicator stalk, the light in the speedo should illuminate then you take your foot off the accelerator. Pressing the brake will deactivate the system as will moving the rotary switch back to the right. If you press the accelerator gently you can speed up to pass someone and, providing the light is still on, releasing the pedal will allow the car to carry on at the previous set speed.

Hi Lady P,

only tend to use the CC on duel carriageways / motorways, prefer foot to pedal control for up and down of the Wolds.

To select on at the speed currently been driven then press the rocker switch on the end of the left hand indicator arm down to SET. To disengage press the brake or clutch pedal. If you speed up you can lift off the accelerator and you find she / he goes back to the set speed as long as you don't brake.

You can while in cruse increase the set speed by pressing the rocker switch up but I find this a bit clumsy myself unless your fine tuning say from 69 to 70.

If memory serves me right without looking it up I think it only works above 20 mph.

Regards,

TP

To add to TP's reply, you can switch off the cc temporarily by flicking the switch on the top of the stalk to the midway position and letting it return to the on position (fully to the left). It has the same effect as touching the brake, accelerator or clutch. I find it useful to do this if you think you'll be slowing down shortly but don't wish to brake at that moment (e.g. lifting your foot of the accelerator).

If you press the rocker switch at the end of the stalk to the up position, the speed will return to the previously set speed unless the system has been switched off completely (top switch to the off position or ignition switched off).

If you press the rocker switch at the end of the stalk to the down position, the speed will be set to the current speed.

If adjusting the speed via the stalk, I think a single press (either way) is equivalent of 1 mph (or maybe ½ mph) change in speed.

I recently drove along a stretch of the A1 in N. Yorks where they are widening the road from 2 to 3 lanes. For around 25 miles there is a 50mph speed limit with it being monitored by cameras checking your average speed leaving no margin for error. Cruise control is brilliant in those circumstances and I heartily recommend it. It is certainly worth working out as it could save your licence.

Thank you everyone for your brilliant instructions  - I will practice in daylight so I don't take my eyes off the road too long... :S

At least you can switch our cruise controls off - unlike the Toyota ones.... emoticon-0105-wink.gif

PS I agree with all of the above, works very well and expecially useful on quiet dual carriageways/motorways or motorway roadwork speed restrictions. Touching the clutch pedal cancels the cruise as well as braking.

On our automatic Superb I could set the cruise control and it would drive at the set speed.

You could adjust the set speed by the "set" and "restore" buttons. If the set speed was being exceeded going down hill it could be kept in control by manually selecting a lower gear from the Tiptronic system. I suspect it might be possible to use the top and bottom parts of the Yeti button in the same way.

The Yeti system is fine on the flat but if you are in a speed controlled zone that is hilly and you have to change gear then the cruise control has to be reset.

So the Yeti cruise control does not deal with those with devious minds who set speed limits on hills :S

Sat nav helps you pick up the nasty places traps are set - e.g on a bridge over a dual carriageway after a roundabout turn from miles of two lane A road when you put your foot down to overtake the caravan you have been following for ages!! A quick flick of the cruise control keeps your licence clean.

BTW do folks that also have active radar detection find that the 50mph road works etc warnings tend to be zones heavily sprinkled with radars?

Remember that cruise control uses more fuel than controlling the accelerator with your foot. (Now for a hundred oh no it doesn't replies.....)

Why is that? I would have thought the opposite was the case.

From my experience delivering Vauxhalls that isn't true.

Can you please provide evidence?

I guess with a manual gearbox, there's potential for excessive fuel consumption if you allow the engine to labour up a hill, trying to maintain a fixed speed.

On the other hand, I've had cruise control on several AUTOMATIC cars in the past (Mercedes, Renault, etc.), and find the cruise control does an excellent job of changing down to the appropriate gear before the engine starts labouring up a hill. Just hope the DSG box does this.

Of couse there are significant benefits from having cruise control to maintain a steady speed without changes in throttle that we all probably apply unneccesarily.

I found the Tiptronic box on my Superb was better for fuel economy when on automatic rather than when using manual gear selection.

Juggling the six speed gearbox on the new Yeti appreciate how diligent the auto was in changing down for uphill and then up for downhill!

Watching the live fuel consumption when labouring uphill in a too high gear in comparison with maintaining the equivalent speed in a lower gear gives some interesting readings.

Guess the differences between cruise control fuel consumption and manually controlled accelerator could easily be lost by the human driver using more pressure on the accelerator than is needed for minor speed adjustments,

Thank you all- it's been fun whilst it lasted!

Lady P - does this mean we did not press the right buttons for you? That would be a sad moment :'(

I am so hacked off- I tried to post a few minutes ago to the Why a Yeti thread and finished typing pressed post and it just vanished...

I think BigW and The Moderatots have it in for me- see also Very Tall Driver thread.

Not prepared to be monitored, censored intimidated and laughed at when all I've tried to do is make Yeti forum a happy place- it was fun but no more.

Please send my best to all and I wish everyone fun with their Yetis. My messenger wont work either.

Bye

Catherine

My heart is totally broken!! I received a PM but it would not open. I will continue to write c**p poetry just like our Rabbie!!!

A truly sad day as you brought fun to the forum through your comments and questions. Something has gone badly wrong here.

I can picture you now driving off into the sunset in your Yeti, sunglasses on, pink Lady P suit and laughing away (please never, ever tell me you are 85, I genuinely do picture you as Sophia Myles from the recent film version. To lose that illusion would be too much) :giggle:

I was about to post a light-hearted response on here about what a cruise control really is (BIG smile - about to be moderated), since I am far too old and of the wrong inclination!!

And then I thought about what use a CC would be up here on the Epynt hills above Builth Wells. Cruise?? So busy changing gear avoiding sheep and farmers to even THINK about cruising.

But then again, over the beautiful Beacons... ... ...

Bye bye Lady P of Worcester, who writes fluent Welsh, and goes walkies with her Yeti on the Bromyard Downs... we have so much in common - sigh.

Are you only pretending? Having a little lady-like huff 'n' puff?

Please don't desert us in our hour of need.

Catherine, cariad, please don't go, we need you here!!

You are the voice of feminine logic and sensibility. that balances out the male testosterone of some of the more "uncontrollable" members.

Aren't you a vet?
