Interior "diffuse lights" - how to switch off

Featured Replies

The two wee lights that beam down on the gear lever are referred to as 'diffuse lights' in the owners manual. Anyone know if they can be turned off - they bug the hell out of me!

Permanent feature unless you disconnect them from behind the panel.

Personally I like them though.

I like them too - or at least I would if they lit up on my SM. They don't with the rather splendid panoramic sunroof fitted emoticon-0106-crying.gif

I thought it was just me :(

Stick a couple of bits of tape over them

I find them useful as I don't need to put the interior lights on for my passenger to see what she is doing!!

I've got the creaky/panoramic roof on mine as well, and the two "diffuse lights" works great on my car  Would love to trade them for a creak free roof though :giggle:

Hi JonA,

hope you're keeping well and sorry to hear your still in the 'unwanted additional noises club', mine back in today for another look amongst other things.

Anyway just a quick query do you have the alarm system? Feel sure we have discussed this on the forum before that you can have the lights and the sunroof if you don't have the alarm, due to a different roof control panel.

The mind boggles :giggle:

Peeling the paper off my sweeties - of course.

Hi Plumber!

I'm all well, and so is my monster if I forget all the unwanted cabin noises it's producing :o

Your question concerning the alarm is no, my car does not have the factory fitted alarm system :) That is probably why my two small "mood lights" is working even if I have the panoramic roof

I've not heard that euphemism before :giggle:

Might have been more sensible to build the lights into the underside of the mirror.

That's were the 'mood light' (thanks JohnA B) ) is fitted to the wife's Corsa; good place to locate it :)

Hi,

had this discussion some time back and decided that roof panel design and location effected the functionality of these lights as follows

no sunroof = mood lights

sunroof and no alarm system = mood lights

sunroof and alarm system = no mood lights

The latter is due to the roof panel incorporating alarm sensors which moves the mood lights to the front of the panel but with the sunroof the panel itself moves forward resulting in the mood lights reflecting into the rear view mirror (we think anyway). Hence there deactivated.

Here's a link to one of the threads about sunroofs and 'cats eyes' (aka 'diffuse lights'), includes a picture of TPs lights in action and my overhead console which shows the cats eyes to be almost above the mirror. I would think the console is used in other VAG vehicles where it is mounted further aft and the lights wouldn't shine on the mirror.

PS How do you that 'My Link' thing for links?! emoticon-0124-worried.gif

They look like the same positions as in my superb. the cateye lights dont reflect off my mirror, maybe the mirror in the superb is slightly lower.
