Was doing some work on the VRS yesterday and needed to remove drivers side headlight. Usually this is a bumper off job, and I didn't want to remove bumper as the car has just been detailed. Anyway, there is another ( and IMO easier way) to remove the headlights.
1: Pull back engine compartment weather seal from the bonnet slam panel.
2: Remove the torx bolts from the slam panel (two large at either end on the inner wing) 8 small along slam panel.
3: Remove headlight mounting bolts
4: Lift slam panel and wedge a 2 inch block of wood between inner wing and slam panel, to raise slam panel
You could remove the bolts holding the bonnet release if you wanted to lift the slam panel off, but it's not necessary to remove it.
The headlight can now be withdrawn after disconnecting the wiring.
I found this to be a lot quicker than removing the bumper.
Magnetic torx bit holder is needed as the inner headlight bolt is deep down at the back of the headlight.

I managed to easily remove both headlights the other day for painting the headlight inserts black - by just undoing the 4 headlight bolts (I also found the use of a magnetic wand very useful getting the bottom bolt out/in!). Bottom of the headlight pushed upwards from behind to remove, and slant them the same way for refitting. So sorry MoggyTech - there is a quicker/easier way!
