TSI Engines

Do the TSI engines need Super Unleaded to give their full performance, like the old VW 16V units or are they going to be set up for 'normal' unleaded.

I owned a Renault Twingo a few months back (the 1.2 Turbo GT) and ran that on both normal and super. To be brutally honest i could see. . . jack all difference. I know this is a skoda and that was a renault but for a 1.2 im guessing normal all the way. Well thats what mine getting anyway, bog standard tesco value.

Apparently these TSi engines dont run in "stratified charge mode" like the early Fsi engines. Those early fsi engines that ran stratified gave a lot of trouble with cylinder heads and I think VW gave it up as a bad idea.

So I dont think super unleaded is required anymore

The fuel cap cover on my Octavia 1.4 TSI says 95 RON so that is what I use. There's no performance issues or knocking.

I have a 1.8TSI which runs just as happily on either but now it has done over 21,000 miles it does feel slightly more sprightly when running on the higher octane brew, though that might just be wishfull thinking of my behalf. :giggle:

It is wishful thinking. All modern engine sensors etc will detect what octane you are running and adjust timing etc to compensate. Just use what is says on your fuel cap/manual. Thats all you need.
