Cambelt change and water pump

Featured Replies

My Dad has recently had his cambelt and waterpump changed on his 1.9 Tdi, but now has a problem with the car. The heater is running cold and engine running hot when worked a bit hard. Cooling fan is also on.

Car has full coolant reservoir.

Any thoughts, and help would be appreciated.

thanks.

Previous experience with older petrol engines would say that you've got the timing out. Poss 180 degrees!!

The muppet who previously had my Mk1 Golf GTI had it the wrong way and it wouldn't run. Belt slackened off and the timing reset and it ran like a dream.

Re-check timing and let us know how you get on.

Cheers doesn't sound good.

Could be an airlock in the cooling system. Have had that at work before also alot easier then checking timing.

Hope I helped :)

For removing a air lock.

Can't you get the engine up to temperature with the blowers on full heat and fan setting with the cap off of the coolant resivour?

Car has now had a new thermostat fitted by the garage who did the cambelt and pump and the problem still exists. Car is back in again today for a replacement waterpump, so fingers crossed.

I was going to suggest that the replacement water pump wasn't pumping properly when up to speed.

Fingers crossed for you.

All sorted now, the garage found the new water pump to be faulty. It was the metal impellor type. The impellor wasn't tight on the shaft, so when the temp rose the shaft would spin, but the impellor wouldn't.

Thanks for all your tips.
