Vrs tow bar.. Anyone looking for 1

Featured Replies

Hey people

Wee dilema i have just bought a vrs in silver but it has a tow bar fitted with a slight cut in the bumper for it to sit right.

I personally hate it as i will never be towing anything but the guy in the garage was saying its worth a bit of cash.

If anyone is looking for one i am looking to get rid of it.

So i will give the tow bar and either my whole rear bumper for your support bar and the bumper.

No cash involved your way or mine let me know if your intrested.

Cheers

I don't want to do a swap involving a bumper (my vRS isn't silver) but if you're wanting rid of just the tow bar then let me know.

...to your insurance company when you try and make a claim and find the vRS isn't type approved for towing...

You could still use the tow bar for a bike rack. That's the only reason I'm keeping my eyes out for a cheap one if possible.

the insurance company don't have a problem with tow bars, never have with my dads, and havn't even charged him more,he mentioned that the vrs wasn't type aproved for towing, but they said it didn't need to be as its covered under construction and use regs as the same car (1.9 tdi) is,there you go straight from the horses mouth,so can we please now do away with all these internet theorys?

Agreed. The ONLY thing that prevents the vRS from being type-approved for towing is the rear bumper. And the only difference between that and a standard Fabia rear bumper is the bit of plastic glued onto the bottom half of it :giggle:

Tow away I say! :)

There is no thanks button anymore but have a 'THANKS' anyway.

I have looked into this further and the only thing I can find about it is section two in the attached link.

This seems to state that if it is not shown on VIN plate then the car is not approved for towing.

The example it gives is not a very good one as the Ford Ka is not approved for towing at all, where as the other Fabia models are just not the vRS.

Have you got any info which clarifies this further?

Many thanks

Or worse, the police don't like it - see this thread for details.

But as long as you're not using it to tow something, simply having it shouldn't be a problem. It's not legal for a car to have 2 engines driving it, but it's not illegal to drive one with the second engine disengaged (ref: the black cab bodged by the "Chaos Crew" on Scrapheap Challenge).

Cheers Guys for the advice. To be honest its not really bothering me now.

still looking to pick up a new bumper but not in that much of a rush just cant seem to find some where that sells the vrs back bumper.

Also booking it in to get it remapped, and a few other bits and bobs

I am one of the people who totally fail to understand why people CONTINUALLY say ignore the fact the vRS is not type approved to fit a tow-bar. I asked my insurance company about fitting one and they said NO !!! It's the FITTING of the tow bar that's the problem not whatever you might or might not use it for.
