My car is on an 08 plate, it has only had 1 service since new, so this will be the second service. (i don't think they did much in the first service according to the service book, oil change)

Question is how much should I expect to pay a skoda dealer for my next service?

The main reason I want to service at a skoda dealer is to retain the warranty. My local dealers is Autosales (bilston and burntwood)

Different dealers do have different charges.I think you can legally get your car serviced at an independent without invalidating your waranty subject to certan conditions eg using approved parts, but possibly a bit of a minefield if you did need to activate the warranty.
Charges will also vary according to which service it is eg oil change service should be less than full service, and also the mileage when certain lubricants and/or parts need changing according to the log book schedule. However given the age of yours, it sounds like you're probably not into the latter scenario yet.
It's worth getting quotes and making a comparison and checking what's included in the price: many dealers do an all in price but best to be sure. For example I've heard some dealers charge more for oil provided at a service than it would if you bought the oil and asked them to use it.

Just ring around for some quotes and compare them.

Fab...it's also been known for some independant dealers to fill your engine with the wrong spec oil. If it's a PD engined fabia you have, that could be really bad for your car! Not all independent dealers understand how fussy the PD's camshafts are about their oil.

Update: just opened my eyes and noticed you have the petrol version. Not quite as big an issue for the petrol engine if it has the wrong spec oil in it.

Thanks for the replies. I now have a rough price for the second service. All I know is I need to get my car serviced and don't know what needs to be done. I'm guessing they are going to change just oil, air filter and pollen filter. Can't think of much else and why it's so expensive.

An air filter is not due at 20,000 miles but the brake fluid should be done at 2 years. We often find that dealer serviced cars only have the wheels removed for tyre changes. If the car has alloy wheels they need a fair pounding to release them for a proper brake inspection, something that you won't be able to do, should you get a puncture and need to change the wheel.

I had a reason to phone your local dealer about a year ago, I wanted some information on a car that they sold new, I was told that they would call me back - they never did.

The usual thing these days is for the manufacturer to set a timescale to perform a service or repair, etc but the dealer will set their own hourly rate so one may differ from another by quite some amount, depending on the task in hand.

BTW, it has been known that some Ahem, iffy mech's, accidentally forget to do all the scheduled work that should have been done in the alloted timeframe!

The pressure these poor underpayed, overworked people are subjected to! :'(

Is it not more about how much you are prepared to pay. My 57 has had 2 services the first being st a Skoda dealersjip - a glass and steel one too. It cost £200 and due to loitering close by unintentailly the complete exercise took 20 minutes. I complained but was never called back! No suprise there then!

A couple of weeks ago took it to a local sports car sales / general sevice garage. Was quoted about £120 plus vat. I did not wait around to see how long it took but when collecting it much later the bill was £98 inc. All the boxes are ticked and feel sure that Skoda would have charged another £200.

I think you take your chance and test the different places? I do not think that high price makes for any better service? I guess others will agree.

I am expecting it's gonna be on the wrong side of £200.

Also how will I be able top check what has physically been done so that I'm not ripped off.

Can't remember the name but there is a website that users list traders, of all types, who did work for them. They kind of grade or reccommend them based on the users personal treatment/satisfaction.
It may not cover main dealers, (lthough I don't see why it can't as it only takes a customer to list it).

It may be helpful or even a forum list of happy/dissatisfied customers could be worth setting up as no dealer worth their salt (Corrosion) would want a list of customers saying they did a poor job or overcharged...

We the drivers DO have the power, only we need to know and understand  this!!!

Make sure you do all the obvious things yourself - wipers, windscreen washer fluid, etc. Our dealer now doesn't charge us their huge prices for this, we tell them each time.

Mine will be due its first service in a couple of months... emailed 5 dealers for costs and three didnt bother replying and the others quoted £119 and £133 respectively. I think thats not too bad but we only got chargd £100 for my wifes Pug 107 at a Toyota dealer and the labour was just £34 for a first 10k service. They were very good, I hope Skoda manage to be as decent.
